I was originally told I would get 220bhp.

Jason@bwchiptune put me in touch with Paul@rstuning for a rolling road, thanks :)

This is the result that was provided by the dyno

Needless to say Paul was shocked, and said he didn't like the look of the bottom line on the graph.

Been in touch with the person whom remapped it, now questioned why my figures are so low? And I should be making 184-197hp. As well as suggesting another dyno run...

Other tuners saying they will get 220bhp then when they get caught out they then say the figures I get

I see this every week and get loads of calls quoting 20bhp more than I see

FB tuners get 5/5 start ratings
It's like the blind leading the blind
As most people have no knowledge or nothing to compare it to or other cars to test it against

That's why forums are so much better as there is a wealth of knowledge and truth that goes back many many years where as face book is posted 1 day all your friends see it then it's gone after a month
So it's a great place for all these so called tuners that have sprung up from no where as any bad press is lost and forgotten after a few week or so

I have a list of tuners and FB tuners who damage Ecus
don't get what they say they will
recommend the wrong info so they get more work like Dpf removal and selling the Dpf dust/guts to Dpf recyclers for up to £120

I'll have a look at your car when I test it then I will put it back to standard and re Dyno test to show you the real difference there remap made

When you say ECU's have been damaged. Have they been damaged during the remap process? Or does the map damage it?

Opening them
or
using clone tools that read wrong or flash wrong
Or
Or a lot of these tuners just reuse a tuned file that was made for another car so the data on the Ecu will be wrong

Is this supposed to be a 118d running 219hp!?

I would get dyno tested elsewhere to see the true figure.

It made just 174 on an accurate dyno! 220 was just Facebook Pub-talk bullshit by the 'tuner'.

I advised him to go and see you, but he didn't listen.

I'll explain why it's so low when I see the car

If I posted all the Dyno graphs or all the people who message me every week asking me to look at there car after they have had a remap done by another company after having problems or its not a quick as a car that I've tune that shows 20 Bhp less than there's was on the tuners Dyno who tuned it

Over many many years I've got to know who are making big claims or blame the car for going into limp after there remap or just BS there customers by high Bhp claims that can't tune to even get 30bhp extra and who causes damage to customer Ecus that don't payout to fix them

I'm with Jason on this, there is so much garbage posted regarding power figures. It's not even the dyno. As shown by the DMS figures, they are using a Dyno Dynamics which is a quality Dyno, but unless it is properly calibrated and properly operated, it means nothing.

I recently has a Dyno day, and ran a 116D. It made 180bhp. I commented it was making really good power. The owner responded, saying no it's not, it's supposed to be 220bhp. I laughed and said that's not possible, even with the DPF delete and straight through exhaust.

I also tuned a 116D myself this week, same engine as the 118. It made 116bhp standard. After a lot of hard work i got just over 180bhp out of it. And that was 3-4 hours of Dyno time. It is simply not going to make anymore, the fuel pump struggles to maintain the required rail pressure. This industry is full of chancers. The vast majority of tuners are all using the same bought in map files to tune your car..

Hi there,

Long time lurker but this is my first post. I'm looking at using Celtic Tuning in Newquay for a Stage One Remap of my 2010 118d (143BHP).

This was their reply to my enquiry:

The BMW 1 Series (E8x) 2004-2011 takes the power from 140bhp up to 199bhp and the torque from 221lb/ft up to 285lb/ft. This stage of software is designed as a software upgrade only meaning it is all within safe tolerances of the engine and drivetrain and requires no hardware modifications. With our diesel upgrades you can expect to see upwards of 10% fuel saving dependent on driving style. For testimonials of our work please follow the link: View Testimonials.

To be honest I will just be happier with a bit more poke from the car (around the 180 BHP would be fine) so that it's more engaging to drive. They are also convenient for my location at present and are offering me it for £250 inc VAT which seems entirely reasonable too.

Celtic seem to have reasonable feedback as a well established tuner but I'd be interested to hear any views from those who have used them or had experience of remapping their 118d (as per OP).

Thanks in advance. Si

I would advise you to research a lot deeper on the problems people have had after the remap with the cars going into limp or damaging Ecus and which companies that come up often
40% or my work is fixing the problems caused by Remaps
