Looking for a remap on my 118D E82 (143)

Spoken to a couple of tuning companies within my region.

Both are offering varying results when I have spoken to them on Facebook.

The most local one to me says the following:

https://www.facebook.com/DDGLTD/?fref=ts

Stage 1 - 215bhp & 320ft lb @ £200
Stage 2 - 230bhp & 350ft lb (DPF and EGR Removal) @ £350#

Both stages are live tuned I have been told.

The chap does have a lot of decent reviews on Facebook 5/5

I did ask would the Car be ok running these kind of figures? They seem on the higher end of the scale? I was just going to opt for Stage 1 keeping things simple, however the majority of Stage 1 Maps top out at 190bhp? Anyway he did say his work would be guaranteed.

I know there is one place in Stockport that is very reputable.

Not sure what to do here?
Those figures look like they're for 120D Msport, My old 118D achieved 196bhp stage 2 with dpf physically removed and coded out and egr valve blanked.

Oh right so what am I likely to get?

Does the 120d map work on the 118d?

Thanks

Stage 1 180bhp 400nm
Stage 2 190bhp 420nm

Got these figures from: http://www.remappingsheffield.co.uk/

These are the guys that remapped my old 118D and did the DPF removal etc. I'm guessing because I had DPF removed etc. I got more than the stated figures... Going back there with my 120d soon!

I'm just thinking if they claim to get 215hp from the 118d are they forcing 120d Software on to the ECU?

I still can't get my Head round how they claim to achieve so highly.

How much do the guys in Sheffield charge for a remap?

Thanks

I don't think they can do that, but I'm no specialist. Maybe its their website or supplier telling them the wrong information.

Im not too sure on price, I had my 118D remapped, DPF removed (they take the dpf off, cut it open and take the insides out then weld it back up), EGR valve blanked with a plate, coding for the dpf and egr and also got the flexi joint replaced. Came to £420ish, but was 2 years ago now.

Got quoted on my 120D a few weeks ago and they said just under £500 for remap, DPF removal, EGR removal, Terraclean and a Dyno run.

I don't know anything at all about this either.

I seen pictures and the majority show they use Kess, is this the Software to upload the Map? I am thinking will the Maps actually be written in house or generic?

I know SLT remaps where I had my car done write their own maps which they sell on to many other garages across Sheffield, but I don't know much more about them. I have no idea how they do the software etc. My last car had to have the ECU removed and something done to it, not sure what but the car was a lot quicker and acceleration was so much smoother when I got it back!

Just heard back from DMS

I know you get what you pay for, so I am imagining high quality.

They informed me 220hp & 295ft/lb is possible on the 118D.

But the cost is a little too rich for me.

I can't believe those figures, ring up SLT and ask them if thats possible. They will tell you what will happen to your car when its remapped to that....

At that price I'd look at getting one of those race chips. You can tune them on your phone as well! And they're cheaper than that, and also include warranty etc. https://www.racechip.co.uk

I just went to the guy at DDG in my Home Town. But even the guy at DDG quoted me around the same figures as DMS did, ~220bhp.

I'm £200 lighter, I don't have any Rolling Road figures but honestly the Car is totally transformed in comparison to how it was as a stock 118D.

Just went for a Stage 1 Remap.

It pulls like an absolute Train, really does pin me back in my Seat now.

Can't stop grinning :D

But now it seems to be a tad heavier on Fuel if my right foot gets too heavy. Suppose it can't be had both ways, maybe that is what the Eco Map's are for...

It's probably worse in fuel because you're driving it harder after getting the remap. Happens to me everytime I wake up late for work...

Just was trying out the new found power lol.

But yes it can still be a bit docile if the revs are kept low and gears changed to 3rd or 4th by the time I'm doing 30mph.

Well if kev13 is running 220hp from DMS surely his Engine will go bang?! Power figures posted earlier in this topic.

Engine won't go bang, but things will start to fail on it sooner or later, but then that can be said for any engine with modifications. But in general squeezing more than the "recommended" or tried and tested power out of engines puts a lot more strain on them. The guy at SLT said they can get 280bhp out of a 120D with a bigger turbo and intercooler which can be sourced for under £500. But other various components will start going wrong and its not worth the hassle or risk.

the main thing is that your happy with it!

Ah well it's a case of trial and error, and hoping nothing will go wrong

But yes I am impressed with the change it has made.

As the ECU has been remapped, will it require time to bed in lets say? If so over how many miles generally?

From brimming the Tank, I've done about 26 miles so far and averaged 47mpg over mixed driving.
