MHD

Post by MsportShaun1 » Mon Dec 19, 2016 2:08 pm

Hi
I've had my 135 for a few months now and been looking at unleashing a little more of what the N54 had to offer.
MHD looks the easiest and cheapest way, and from what I've read so far a very safe way, just looking at stage 1. The car is totally stock.
Anyway I just wanted to know if this is the correct cable? (blue one in the centre of the photo) there are 2 or 3 to choose from with a 2008 car.
Thanks in advance

The middle cable is the one I bought to flash MHD with. Worked like a charm.

Also, in this weather you'll be OK with stage 1 + fmic but it will be a waste of time with regards to traction. As soon as the hotter weather returns you'll definitely want a fmic as the inlet temps sky rocket and show up the woefully inadequate standard intercooler.

Flashing MHD is a slippery slope!

Thanks for the replies.
I will be waiting till the weather improves, just getting all the bits I need, looks like I need to add a fmic to my list, can anyone point me in the right direction on the one I need?
It will be the most nervous 40 mins of my life flashing the ecu !!
But I've read a lot on the subject and haven't seen any disasters.

I must admit my bum was twitching a bit on the first flash

As for the fmic there are quite a few options out there and I've got a forge as I managed to get a great deal on it. I'd never pay full price for the forge as there are much better value ones out there. Have a look at Wagner and VRSF.

As long as you do your homework and in know exactly what is needed you will be ok

Phone in flight mode
Car battery on charge
And don't touch car at all during download
Phone fully charged

I have the Vrsf 7in with hard pipes can't recommend it enough, it's a bumper off job to fit it and slight trimming to some plastics but works a treat

I imported it from America and still cost less with import tax than any decent UK supplied intercooler but that was when the exchange rate was better

I imported my charge pipe too and that was cheaper with import duty than anything I could get in the UK. The exchange rate was much better then though.

I'm not planning any track days and mostly drive like saint
Would the stock intercooler cope with a stage 1 flash and the occasional spirited blast?

I logged my intake temps on the standard fmic and even at stage one they were getting high enough for the DME to pull timing thus reducing power.

I did the same, I was quite shocked how poor the oem cooler was

Seems like the oem fmic is a weak link, even on an untuned engine.
Looking at changing that now before I start flashing MHD.
