Brand New 17 Plate BMW 116d for 18 Year Old

Post by KaneW1 » Fri Aug 25, 2017 11:00 am

Hi,

I am 18 Years Old.
I have been driving since December 2016, formally driving a 63 Plate Ford KA. (Unfortunately)
I Have part ex'd my Ford for £3200 with my local Willams garage and been offered a 4 Year PCP Deal for £288 a month on a 17 Plate, new 116d Sport.
I have accepted this and signed all the details and finance has been granted. the car is to be delivered and ready for collection on Tuesday 29th.
Not massive on cars and things like that but I really like 1 Series & just BMW''s as a whole and I can afford the monthly repayments + insurance, so i thought why not.
I am basically just looking for some, advice/guidance!

In all honesty I am not even sure what I'm looking for.
Just wondering if theres anything i should know or any useful advice from long time BM owners or users of this site.

Thanks in advance.
Have a good bank holiday weekend :D

Will it be a long term car, or just for the four years?

I would extend the warranty into year 4, and give it the occasional long, hard run on the motorway. Town use clogs up the EGR, DPF, etc.

Enjoy, but you'll be spending just over £17k to borrow a car for 4 years, seems expensive to me!

I think i may look into a upgrade into a new M Sport of a sort when the 4 years are up.
The warranty definitely sounds a good idea.
I live in Manchester and occasionally go to Blackpool with my girlfriend and her little sisters to take them to the Pleasure Beach so thats a decent 80 Mile round trip.
Also my friends have all just gone to Uni, so i have them spotted around the North of England, id imagine ill be going to see them once a month or so which will give it a decent motorway running occasionally.
Thanks!

The amount to finance is a little over 18k I believe, which is definitely not the most ideal;
however at the moment i pay nothing on my car and spend my wage on terrible purchases and other genera Sh!t
I'd rather splash the money on something I will enjoy daily.
Plus, i can put some money away for a deposit on a upgrade.
By that time i'll be 22 so hopefully (Unless i have any claims/crashes) my insurance would come down substantially so id be looking into a M Sport for sure!

Thanks for your reply!

Congratulations on your new car!

I did exactly the same move a year ago at 18. I moved from a Polo to a pre-reg 1 Series M-Sport 116d. You will really notice the difference in build and the way it drives being rear wheel drive.

On the insurance side of things when you have to renew the policy take a look at General Accident I paid £300 less than the figure you predicted (no telematics box) with a years no claims and being 18.

Every penny saved helps.

But most importantly, enjoy your purchase! :drive:

I don't think it's a good idea to advise the OP to commit insurance fraud.

Enjoy the car when it's delivered and get some photos when you can!
£2500 insurance cost makes me cry though!

I’ve got a 116d m sport 13 plate, first car. I paid £2000 for the first year of Insurance and I’ve just paid £1400 for the second year so I would have thought yours will go down a lot next year.

Enjoy the car and congrats on it. Just be careful with RWD, it can catch you out sometimes aha

Post pics when you collect will be nice to see it

In all fairness, insurances for youngsters is a total joke these days, no matter what you drive. 5 years ago, it cost me £3k to insure a 1L Corsa C, 5 years on, and it's costing me £600 a years for an M140i
