2016 F20 M-Sport Auto

Post by 2Stevo2 » Mon Sep 11, 2017 11:00 am

Chaps,

Looking for a bit of advice.

Recently purchased a 2016 120d msport.

Upon reaching motorway speeds, approx 75-80mph, i have been experiencing a faint juddering through the car, but not the steering wheel. From experience I immediately believed it to be wheel balance issue at the rear so returned it to the dealer who ensured all 4 wheels were balanced. He found one of the rear wheels unbalanced by 5grams. I thought great, thats it sorted......but no, its still there.

Does anybody have any ideas as to what could be causing it?

Its made me question if the wheels have been properly balanced - soo many garages just cant seem to get it right

And

Im wondering if what im feeling is merely the harshness of the msport suspension.

Any opinion would be appreciated.

What Tyres Runflats if do have a feel at the tread run your hand from front to back then back to front if you feel a stepped/serrated feeling it could be that. My 220D sept 15 has what sounds like a wheel brg going but took it to the local stealership they checked it over and that was there diagnosis....the tyres are coming off mid next month ready for my winters to go on. If the noise goes away I'm cool with it it the noise is still there then it will be going back.
Current 2015 F22 Melbourne Red 220D loaded with many extras.
Gone 2012 E82 Space Grey 118D Sports Plus standard spec.

No i havent. Excuse my ignorance but can that cause vibration at speed? I just always assumed it wouldnt. It appears to track straight and true but i suppose u dont really know.

Having done a bit of research, an unbalanced prop/drive shaft certainly fitd the bill for what im experiencing. Would love to hear from anyone thats experienced that.

I very much doubt it. That wouldnt cause a vibration right through the car.

Just eliminating all possibilities. I take it your tyres all have decent thread on?

Yes they do. Its only a year old and i believe its on the original tyres from the factory with 10k miles.

One thing i did notice was that when i had the rear wheels balanced by an independent garage, upon the rear n/s the weights were put in an almost identical place. On thr rear o/s, the weights have been placed in a completely different spot.

Would this suggest a fault with the o/s wheel/tyre in that it can not be balanced properly???

I had a rear wheel buckle on mine causing the same problem. Main dealer was useless and detected by a trusted tyre specialist who also balanced all the wheels correctly after a new wheel was bought(very bad buckle!) and smooth ever since. I also no longer have run flats as these are a big culprit of buckled BMW wheels!

Thanks for the info. Makes sense. I assume it was clearly visible that ur wheel had buckled??

Had a good look at mine and it looks fine from the untrained eye.

Its with the dealer now so ill see what they come up with.

On a positive note, my courtesy car is a 17 plate M140i!
