Newbie help 118i drive train error timing chain

Post by Vix_17 » Thu Sep 21, 2017 12:15 pm

I'm a newbie to the forum and looking for some help and advice.

I have a 118i sport 12 plate manual bought at 6months old from BMW dealership, serviced regulary at same dealership. milege is just over 40k.

car started getting noisy last couple of months and recently juddering -then got the drive trian error.

took it into the dealership who have said it looks like it could be a problem with the cam shaft timing chain.

I thought that 2011+ engines wouldn't get the timing chain faults seen on older models? Am i likely to get any goodwill from the dealership on this?
Surely i shouldn't be seeing this issue on such low mileage?

any help or advice much appreciated?

BMW said timing chain had stretched needed to be replaced - BMW would cover replacement cost except diagnostic cost plus £85?

As you're a long way out of warranty, sounds like a bargain to me, I'd happily pay that under the circumstances. :)
