Trade my car in?

Post by NickCardiff » Sun Oct 22, 2017 10:31 am

I absolutely love my car and it’s currently on 90,000 miles which I’m happy enough with. I intended to keep the car until it dies so I’ve got a good few years driving left with it.

As I do 20,000 miles a year, I’ve seen one or two cars the same as mine but for around 50/60,000 miles for about £1/1,5000 more.

Do you guys think a £1000 more for 40,000 less miles is worth the investment?

I think so and if I do, I’ll obviously take all my retrofits off and transfer them across.

Any views?

If those cars have been used as school-run town cars, their timing chains could be just about ready to pop.

How are you valuing you car?

There will be a far higher gap than £1000 between trading a 90k model in against buying a fresher model with dealer costs and profits to account for.

Well I paid £11,750 for mine and it had 77,000 on the clock. It’s now on 90,500 I’ve looked on autorader, seen what’s out there and I feel I can probably sell if for what I paid tbh, well I hope I’m not deluded saying that!

Just interested in people’s opinions tbh. My car runs perfect with a full BMW service history. I’m thinking I’ll more than likely keep it than go through the hassle of selling mine, clearing fncsnce then finding another but the one or two with 40,000 miles less is tempting.

Marco, is there a way of inspecting timing chains?

Yes, take the engine out and have a look! :(

It's on the back of the engine up against the dashboard, most people 'inspect' aurally.
