Dash Cam and USB

Post by Babilon2 » Tue Nov 21, 2017 4:35 pm

Hi
I have a 2013 120d
I have just purchased a MINI 0906 dash cam. I see I can get a hard wiring kit for it but not sure how feasible this is as the fuse box is in the engine bay.
The camera has a parking mode on it which I would like to utilise.
Has anyone hard wired a dash cam into a 1 series?

Yeah, plenty of feeds to run from within the vehicle, think I got feeds from the driver side kick panel last one I fitted

A bit of a copy/paste of a thread I posted in the ICE section that nobody's replied to but I'm also looking at getting an 0906 and want to use parking guard function. A lot of people get low battery warnings from the car when it detects the drain of the camera whilst in parking mode, I really don't want to go down the route of supplementary power supplies etc but I noticed that the BMW Advanced Eye retrofit camera has parking guard and presumably avoids triggering these warnings despite being hardwired to the car with no supplementary power. I was wondering if anyone has wired in something like an 0906 or any other 3rd party camera using the same wires identified in the guide rather than just picking random live and ignition fuses from the fusebox?

I fitted a nextbase cam with a smart hard wire kit that stops recording if voltage is too low but otherwise records all the time when parked. Hard wired to permanent live and have no issues

Do you get any issues with DAB signal since you've installed it? A lot of the cheaper hardwire kits and dashcams seem to have poor electrical isolation and create RF interference, had it in my previous car where I hardwired in a Mobius where plugging in the camera to USB basically wiped out any DAB signal unless it was extremely strong.

Had no issues tbh although my dab signal is weak anyway as I’ve got led sidelights and reverse lights

anyone know how long the 12v socket under the glove box stays on for after you lock the car?

i dont have a hard wire kit so it just powers on via ignition but noticed the camera still stays on after i lock the car
