New car, what’s the infotainment spec??

Post by joe.bloggs1 » Sun Dec 31, 2017 9:34 am

Hi. Ive recently placed an order for a new company car. I was limited to 1 model and spec this year due to cut backs. Ive ordered a BMW 1 series 118i se petrol. No optional extras apart from the extended storage pack. What connected services will I receive? Im hearing all new BMW’s come with a build in SIM card for connectivity. Do I get to remotely lock and unlock my doors like my Insignia I used to have. Do I get the concierge services? Do I get real time traffic updates? Etc etc etc. Ive hunter high and low to see what I get with the spec of my car but can’t find it anywhere. Hoping you experts can help me! Thanks.

Remote lock and unlock -- No, it's something like £50 extra per year if I remember correctly.
Concierge -- No, but you do get the emergency call assist.
Real time traffic -- yes (free for 3 years).

You also get various things like real time weather, news, local points of interest, etc. Nothing of any great use really. Others can probably add more, it is a bit confusing until you get the car, set things up and have a play.

The most important thing is it will have the BMW rear wheel drive experience!

I suspect that once you have the car, you will be able to create your account on BMW connected drive etc., and then subscribe to other services at your own expense.

When you log in to that service, you get a home page something like:

What's a bit confusing is that, although it shows a price for 'Basic Services', and as you will see from the small print, our vehicle actually HAS the 'basic services'.

For example, if I click on RTTI, I get details (VIN number and date removed) showing that I'm subscribed until xx etc.

Obviously mapping services are only relevant if you have the Media Professional package (ZNP), as I believe is the 'Entertainment (on-line music).

I think this is the current basics service package:

RTTI is standard for first 3 years, renewable thereafter.

Not sure how RTTI works without Navigation (i.e. maps), but I'm sure someone will chime in.

Thanks for all your responses. Someone sent me a link to the brochure. It says in it that is comes with bmw concierge. The brochure has numbers beside the items which corresponds to the information at the bottom of the page. Concierge has 1,5 next to it which says: 1: requires a free bmw connected account, 5: Active for 3 years, renewable thereafter. From my understanding it means I get it free for 3 years?? Here’s the link to the brochure. Page 11 & 12. Remember and read the small print. It also says remote services everyone gets as long as you have ZNP (unsure what that is)

ZNP is Professional Media (refer to last page of booklet). The notes on Concierge are 1 & 4, 4 says "Available for 3 years...", and a cost of £240. Not sure why it shouldn't be available after that, perhaps it means that after that you have to pay for BMW online services as well (which are free for 3 years before you can have get Concierge). It is a bit confusing... Once you have the car (need the VIN), you can set up the web based customer portal and see what you have and what else is available for what cost!

Car finally came. Infotainment spec is average. I added the remote service and concierge service to it. There is a code HAPPY2018 which gave me 20% off connected drive services.
