Recognising adaptive suspension.....

Post by moono16v » Fri Jan 12, 2018 9:33 am

....as title says really. Ideally I want the adaptive suspension but unless it’s an enthusiast owned car, looking at places like the autotrader / Pistonheads not many mention it. When going to see a car what should I look for to spot the suspension?

Thanks.

The dampers would have an extra wire coming off the protruding Adaptive valve housing:

So you mean if that image was a gun.....the bit that looks like the handle to it is the bit I need to look for?

I can see this on just looking up the Arch?

Correct, stock dampers don't have the guns' handle.

Or, rather than poking about under the car, just enter the car's VIN (which you could ask the owner for in advance...) on a VIN decoder like https://www.etkbmw.com/bmw/EN/vin/decoder/online for the full factory order spec. S2VF is the code you are looking for.

If you can configure sport mode via the Idrive, I'm sure that means it's got adaptive?

Had that option until I got it coded out for coilovers, also doesn't seem to be in the non adaptive car we just bought for my brother..

I can configure Sport mode in iDrive but my car doesn't have adaptive suspension.

I sold my M235i to Evans Halshaw (Bedford) before Xmas and they’ve advertised it for just 1k more than I received, plus their advert is really poor with no mention of adaptive suspension or HK sound. Car is like new - I recommend it:

Gone..... M235i auto - AW/ Coral / adaptive / pro nav / HK / sun pack / comfort pack / butt warmers

It's only true for early M135i's, BMW made the configuration standard at LCI (iirc).

My LCI (125i not M135i) has three options in iDrive for Sport mode - drivetrain, chassis or both. "Chassis" covers both adaptive suspension and active steering, so you'll (presumably) have that option in iDrive if you have either option fitted.
