Retrofit an interior light with reading lights ?

Post by Ukbondys » Fri Feb 23, 2018 12:20 pm

Can anyone point me in the right direction of a part please and how easy is it for me to sway my single light for a tri- version if one exists ?

Thanks

RealOEM is your friend - http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/showpar ... Id=63_1337

At a guess, you want to swap your current cluster for one with Light Package S563A=Yes rather than No - find the one you already have in the table (part number 3 for the front cluster), and find the part number of the equivalent with 563A= yes.

I'll try to explain...

The part you want is number 3 on the diagram; the front overhead lighting cluster. There are several different lighting clusters which can fit at this point on the car, with different features; the one your car is supplied with at the factory is dependent on the options that are fitted to your car.

The relevant options, in this case, are which trim level your car was in (Urban, Sport, Modern, Luxury or M Sport) and whether or not you had the optional extended lighting package, which was option code 563. Your car didn't have that option, as if it did, you would already have the reading lights - they were part of the extended lighting package.

From the table, it looks as if there were three configurations. Base trim level was one; Urban trim level was another, and Sport / Luxury / Modern and M-Sport were all the same.

If you had base trim, the part number for the light is 63319312494 - that trim level was never supplied with the extended lighting.

If you had Urban trim, the part number for the light without the reading lights is 63319277925; with the reading lights it is 63319312495

If you had any other trim option - which is almost certainly the case for a UK market car - the part number for the light without reading lights is 63319277926; with the reading lights it is 61319312496.

So, unless you have Urban trim on your car, the part you want is 61319312496, to replace what is currently fitted to your car, which is currently 63319277926.

Go to your local dealer parts counter, give them your registration number, and ask them which of the upgraded clusters is the one to match your car - as above, it is probably the one ending 496. Pay the man, take it home, fit it - job done!

followed by

i.e. remove ceiling light cluster by prising out with trim tool; clip new cluster in. Looks like a five minute job.
