Keyless theft

Post by flyboy777 » Wed Apr 18, 2018 11:50 pm

Do you have to have comfort access to be at risk of this or are you vulnerable with just the regular remote key transmitter that you actually have to press to unlock the car?

If you're worried OP, just get a faraday pouch off of eBay and keep your keys in that.

I said keyless "access" ie, you don't need to "use" the key to gain entry. There's plenty of info out there regarding the issue. The thieves gain access by using an amplifier to relay the constant signal that's being sent by the key to open the doors of the car and start the engine. The standard key doesn't emit a signal to gain access to the vehicle, hence why it's just car's with comfort access that affected by this particular problem.

This is the main reason I chose not to have comfort access on mine. It's supposed to make life easier, but in fact just ties you up having to use faraday pouches etc.

OK thx.
So just comfort access that can be hacked with the signal amplifier trick.
The normal remote does emit a signal otherwise it wouldn’t unlock the car but I assume that it is only when the button is pushed.
Think they can hack them too by jamming the signal so the car doesn’t lock, so always good to check it actually is locked.
