118d Detail with Ceramic Paint Protection

Post by cleandetail » Mon Feb 06, 2012 12:05 am

Thought id pop up and show you a car we did not to long ago. I own the exact same car my self so i'll be around from now :spotman:

Here we have a customer’s BMW 118d M Sport. Its in need of a little more gloss, de-swirl, de-badge and Ceramic Paint sealant using G3-Glasscoat.

So, here is the 1 series once it arrived.

After been owned for just a few weeks the customer rightly believed it needed a little more work. So, at first glance we can see its got loads of contamination on her.

So, out comes the 2 bucket method, Snow Foam, Billberry, Citus Pre-wash, Iron-x and Tardis to we could get a base to start on.

Here are some photos of the Iron-X at work.

So, once rinsed again, de-tared it was brought inside for a dry off using plus microfibre drying towels. Once dry, i started panel by panel claying the car to remove any little bits of contamination which was not removed until this stage.

The BMW was then dried again and looked like this before we started on the enhancement. Here is the view from up stairs.

Anyone who owns or has worked on a white vehicle will know how hard it is to get a shot of the swirls. But, by chance i managed to get this to show the extent of the problem.

So, i started on the 2 stage machine polish.

Once polished with a mix of 3m, Scholl and dodo we got the perfect base for the ceramic to be applied. All the windows were also machined with 3m and the plastics were cleaned with a non-silicone based cleaner rather than a dressing.

While I was working on the customers car, the Mrs felt the need to give hers a clean after some inspiration from my self.

Wheels, plastics, windows and fabric were all sealed in this process to give the following finished product.

Tyres were dressed with Meguiars Endurance Tyre gel to give them a nice glossy finish with no "flick off" which can sometimes be a problem with white paint.

Thanks for readying!

Impressive results! Would you go as far down as J7 of the M6 for a mobile valet?

Not far from Oldberry! did a few bits for Sytner Oldberry in 2010.

For a Mobile Valet maybe not, unless your happy to pay the extra fuel costs.

My van is gas which is a bonus :spotman:
