175 micron home window security film

Post by wenklaw » Thu Dec 07, 2017 10:33 am

As some of you may have read on another thread regarding a stolen m140 back door smashed, not mine but I am considering window security film 175 micron as my windows are toughened not laminated but neither offer great protection.
Had a quote for all downstairs windows plus a landing window which could be accessed by a determined intruder, works out about £42 a window, each window is approx. 150mm x 80mm ( I have two large bay windows) on average I reckon with a couple being double that, **SPAM** window and landing, back doors. Im looking at £600 - £650 including VAT installation.

Does this seem reasonable? I have had another quote which a little less but I preferred the reviews of The Window Film Company than the other one which I wont name as that would be unfair.

I know it wont stop a determined intruder but for me its about making it time consuming, as hard as I can. This also isn't just about protecting my car, its about securing my home as best I can.

Any thoughts? Am I mad?

I don't know how much that would boost security but £600 installed doesn't sound terrible if it's a decent increase.

It stops toughened glass just falling out after applying pressure with a window punch, I’ve actually seen it done and it just shatters with little effort.
I reckon it will mean I fair bit more noise as well. From the YouTube vids I’ve seen while it isn’t unbreakable it does need significantly more force to get through than toughened glass on its own.
