So you noticed getting flashed the first time, and then did it again
Genuinely, thought the dual carriage way i was on was a 50, flashed at like 45 ish. Slowed down to 35 ish, bang flashed again!

We’ve got a duel carriageway near us that goes from 50 to 30.

And where do the dirty rats sit with their laser gun? Yep, just further down where it changes. And as it’s on a bend you’ve got absolutely no chance.

They caught me doing I’d say approx 35mph and they let me go so I’m assuming I wasn’t worth the pull as they had bigger fish to fry, my brother for example 58 he got clocked at maybe 10 years ago.

What annoyed me was the copper was a little disappointed and allegedly said “lucky boy another 2 mph and you’d be banned”

Tosser.

Up to 86mph should get an offer of a course (usual course critera is up to 10% + 9).

Up to 96 in a 70 should result in a fixed penalty of 100 + 3PTS.

Ypu do not get banned at 6 pts under the new drivers act. You licence gets revoked. It is automatic, imposed by dvla not the magistrates.

It is not quite as bad. You can apply immediately for a provisional and drive in accordance with the terms of that.

The ne fines etc only come into play should you make a court appearance.

So the dual carriageway was a 30!

Was this one of those cases of a 'restricted road' - this happens a lot apparently. If you're in an 'urban' area with street lights, they don't need to signpost the speed limit as it defaults to 30, but people automatically expect a dual carriageway to be higher (I'd expect 40 as a minimum). There was a petition years ago to put 30 repeater signs up to warn people, but don't think it went anywhere. I think this is pretty bad when they then put speed camera's up.

Yep exactly this, there were no signs indicating the speed limit from when I turned onto the road until i got to the camera.

FYI it was the camera in bitterne Southampton, 3rd most prolific in the country.

I'm always wary of those cameras on the side of the gantry, HADECS 3 I believe they are. I travel on a smart motorway for my commute and I always see them flashing - whether a variable speed limit is being enforced or not. My Dad also got done by one for doing 81 with no variable speed limit showing.

They are set to catch people on a variable limit OR anything above 80mph.

So is 71 :bustedcop: My point was a lot of people seem to think they're not in operation if no speed limit is showing, like the OP - why else go past a speed camera at 95.

Also people don't realise the "average" speed camera's you get along roadworks etc, not only measure your average speed between points, but are also actual speed camera's at that point, so no going slow and then belting past them.

And some don't seem to understand what the word average means  Slow down for each camera but massively over the average speed anyway...

Must admit I was under the impression that they weren't active when the variable speed limit is not in force, but I would always be weary of a speed camera, regardless of where it was....if I knew it was there!

Evening Folks,

Nothing yet, however, i've still got a week to go so fingers crossed! If it's 3 points & £100 fine - I'll be chuffed! - that'd mean I would still have my licence and live to see another day

The road you’re referring to is in a heavily built up area with housing and pavements on either side. I’m surprised you thought it would be 50mph. The lack of speed limit signs is a bit of a clue too.
