123d Intercooler & Fuel Pump Upgrade!!!

Post by ecotuneuk » Tue Feb 04, 2014 10:24 pm

Hey guys,

Please forgive my neglect as I have not posted on the board for quite some time. This is mainly because we have been so busy beevering away developing exciting new products. We intend to have the most powerful N47 2.0 diesel running on pump fuel in Europe. The target is at least 350hp with 50mpg in normal driving... our hybrid turbochargers are already built however, we have found that this engine runs out of fuel volume at 280-290hp and it is quite simply impossible to produce any more power without upgrading the high pressure fuel pumps.... don't worry... they are in development and should be released as a new Ecotune product around May!

Now being the proud owners of a shop 2011 model 123d with the sole intent of product development we quite simply got to it!

Some great news to begin with... we have been working closely with friends in Germany regarding the best possible intercooler solution on the N47 engine... why Germany? We sampled a few others available to us in the UK and we were either met with a lack of willing to assist in our development or the results simply did not make for a viable product.

Now to put things into perspective, with an ambient temperaure of 15c a 123d running stock software will see temps climb on the dyno as high as 60+c, add to that a software calibration and of course these temps get even higher. Our revision 1 development intercooler we saw temps drop to a max of 45c which is of course a phenominal result but we wanted better so after providing our findings to our cooler developer back came revision 2, this time again with an ambient of 15c the intercooler peaked at a maximum of 36c! Revision 2 it is!

To make matters even better we have put the first 100 units into production. Anyone who would like to view the datasheet can get in touch at info@ecotune-scotland.co.uk

The intercoolers will be finished in understated matt black and we will be happy to release the first 10 at a discounted rate to BabyBMW members...

We will keep you posted with photo's, videos of development and product updates as they progress.

Kindest regards,

Stan @ Ecotune

Been waiting on this one for a while since I emailed you last year!

How does it compare against the BMWPerformance intercooler you have on your 123d?

Im interested in this, 350BHP in a 123d would be epic, when the first batch of intercoolers are ready if you could let me know a price that would be great.

Thanks

How much do you think this full upgrade to 350 bhp likely to cost... And roughly how much torque because surely the clutch and gearbox might need updating??

The n47's are all fitted with Bosch cp4 fuel pumps and we are hoping that we will have a kit available where the internals can be replaced. This is still in development. Naturally it would be simple to fit an n57 dual piston fuel pump but not everyone has £1000 to spend on a pump and of course then an additional 2500bar pipe is required to feed the rail not to mention having to tap it with an additional rail input and the additional r&d/manufacturing costs involved.

Upgrading the stock pump using replacement internals to supply 30-40% more volume is more than enough to achieve our goals and we will of course keep everyone updated on this progress.

We are hoping to limit the torque to 425ftlbs as we have already found this to be a reliable torque limit for the transmission with no adverse effects on the clutch/dual mass, the graph below shows the graph for said calibration.

The 177hp model yes, it fits perfectly. We are in the process of having an uprated intercooler inlet pipe made to suit the 116d 122hp and 118d 143hp models also.

I've got a 163bhp M47 engine, does that mean it won't fit?
