When will BMW stop making the M140i?

Post by TheWait » Sun Jun 18, 2017 11:36 pm

As above, does anybody have any idea when BMW will stop taking orders? Is it going to be this year or next year?

Cheers

Good time to buy next year then as they usually start throwing loads of goodies on when they're coming to the end of the line :-)

Not only that, this will be the last version that has a 3.0 litre 6 pot with a RWD chassis and, possibly, the last time they offer a manual option.
I'm sure the next version will be more powerful and faster (with 4WD), but I doubt it will be more fun or as characterful.
I'm planning on keeping my forthcoming M140i after the 4 year PCP!
Manual, Estoril Blue/Coral Red, sunroof, Biz Nav, Enhanced BT, Media cradle, Comfort Pack, Ext Storage, Black Panel, heated seats, MP black grilles, BlackLine lights, MP exhaust, 18" LRN Cyclone wheels, full MP interior

Nope, the 1 series is definitely moving to a FWD platform and a 6 pot won't fit in that.

So it's almost certain the next 140i or whatever they call it will be an overboosted 2.0 4 cylinder with some form of AWD.

Current - BMW M140i, BCS Powervalve Cat Back
Prev - Focus ST-3 Mk3.5 :D

Yuck.

Too many options in the sea of fake AWD hot hatches. A/CLA/GLA, Audi S/RS, Golf R etc etc.
Aussie M140i 5 door
Underbody brace - Quaife LSD - Eibach Pro springs - SuperPro camber bushes - BCS cat back

Yeah for sure.. The 135's and 140's are going to be the last of the proper engines! 4pots are so boring because everyone is using them these days.. But sure it is amazing how they can produce a 2.0l 4 pot to produce as much and more power than a 3.0 6 pot thesedays! But 4wd is defo the way forward with how powerful cars have become now..

Also love the sound of BMs new AWD system on the next M5 where it remains a RWD most of the time but sends power to the front when it needs too. Kinda the same as the VAGs system

AWD is the way forward imo specially if they make it like VAGs system where it's mostly two wheel drive and sends it to the other two when it needs too...

This was from Trl himself..

BMW have been pretty good at running stock down before its expiry date... think 1 series convertible, think Z4..... both out of production with a long gap until the replacement arrived..... they prefer to empty the shelves naturally rather than cause distress selling.... so if they follow the trend we will see the M140 expire before the replacement car is out....

Doubt that any m-lite 1 or 2 series will have that. 5 series is and always will be rwd platform so awd system is still rear biased.

1 and 2 series will likely be haldex system.........bring on the understeer !!

Yep. It'll be sharing a chassis with the Mini Countryman so probably whatever system that has in the 4x4 model (awful thing).

Not entirely sure what that means in terms of time scales though...?

Thanks all, I was hoping it would be at least next summer so based on what you have said that sounds likely!

Cheers

If you absolutely want to own a brand new M140i, I wouldn't leave ordering too long. Currently BMW literally can't make B58 engines fast enough, factory build slots have been limited, and waiting lists are growing by the day. Order a 5 door today and you might get one before Xmas.
