Can't decide LCI or pre-LCI

Post by mattyhook101 » Mon Oct 16, 2017 10:34 pm

Hi all, I've been imming and amming about an M135i for some time now and recently test drove a 2016 Lci model at my local dealer. Absolutely loved it. Now the dilema is do i save some cash and get the older pre-lci version?

So my question is really, are there any real considerable improvements in the two? I'm after a 5 door auto, pro nav and the new steering wheel. The lci version I test drove had all this. I don't want to get the older pre-lci and then feel a bit gutted, anal I know but these cars aren't cheap no matter which one you get!

Many thanks for any replies

I think I recall someone describing the pre LCI as having a face that only a mother would love :)

Ha yes I've read various opinions aboutbthe looks. I do prefer the lci on looks alone, but it's more the fact if it feels significantly different (better ot worse) behind the wheel, the drive etc

Actually I much prefer the pre lci looks wise and opted for this

Not long ago fitted the newer steering wheel and air bag which I picked up for £250 all in which is a straight swap

You were lucky. Haven't seen them for less than 400, but usually 450/550 depending on spec. The air bag alone is £285.

I need paddle shift, cruise and preferably alcantara. Would also like to retrofit a heated one if I go that far.

DIY

Disconnect negative terminal on battery

Remove airbag, 2 x slits in the the back of the wheel to access the spring clips

Undo 16mm bolt

Refit is reversal👍🏻

The wheel I got had paddle shift but mines a manual

I got the rear cover for the manual wheel on its own for £13 and sold on the auto rear cover and paddles for £80

The wheel and air bags you're seeing are the ones that don't sell at that money, don't forget to search other chassis codes i.e. F30, F15 etc.

I've searched just BMW steering wheel, let alone m performance or F20. I'm not saying they don't exist, you were lucky. That's not a normal price.

My pre lci has an lci wheel where it’s 14 plate so maybe look around that year

The steering wheel changed at Week 10 of 2014, added the active TPMS sensors too.

I'd go LCI personally, for the better suspension.

Yes I had this exactly in mind - a late 14 plate. As long as it were a 5dr auto and pro nav because in my mind they look identical inside to an lci interior...

Ha ha, true but I've become desensitised to my pre-lci's face over time to the point that it doesn't bother me. The pre lci has a better rear imo and that's the bit most other road users see :D

I personally think pre LCI looks more aggressive at the front and defoe agree the rear looks better. Power wise you can change all that and handling wise the same.
Cars do move on though and as much as I love mine (and trust me, I really do) the above wouldn't stop me getting a new M140i. Great cars in any guise.
