Post by Simon Site Manager » Mon Sep 25, 2017 2:15 pm

Does anyone know why sportier cars have different coloured wing mirror covers?

Thanks.

Inexpensive marketing. Car marketing departments think people are actually retarded magpies, and therefore impressed/baffled by bullshit shiny painted tat.

This!

My grey M240 looked stupid with the slightly different grey of the ‘M-lite’ covers. Changed them to carbon to match the m perf bootlip spoiler

I had a right lol when I saw the price of the m performance carbon mirrors with the little flick on, £350+ each. F**king each. I got both for £99 off eBay and they're spot on.

It's all a gimmick but people fall for it and spec them in the build.

Incidentally if anyone wants any, check out ukcarbon eBay seller he's got a few sets left

I saw autoid had some that were well priced too (sub £200), I went to buy them but they'd sold out. Saw ukcarbon had some and bought them instead. Über pleased with this the quality for the price

If you have the genuine ones when your engine goes pop... BMW can't turn round and say that your non genuine mirrors caused the problem!!!

And here's mine from AutoID, and similarly hugely cheaper than the BMW ones. I absolutely agree about how bizarre the BMW thinking is on this: cheaper versions of the 2 have the wings matching the body colour. Why BMW think matt-grey-that-doesn't-match-anything-else-on-the-car is more exclusive is a mystery to me.

Next thing will be your exhaust tips which tend to corrode in the wet/salt of a UK winter. The original finish is pretty poor. As recommended on the Forum, I had mine sand-blasted and powder-coated inside and out, below ...

I got a set of genuine bmw body coloured ones off eBay (some swapped to silver ones!) and put on when I picked up the car... looks much better imo..
2017 Petrol - many galloping horses.. Intergalactic miles....
2014 Dirty White 120d sport auto - brilliant but gone to help save the planet from diesel....

Nice mirrors.

Not a fan of the black tips though, had similar on my last car and whilst they never really looked dirty they just didn't stand out as much. Black car though.
