New M140i Shadow

Post by Mr_Mark » Mon Sep 25, 2017 4:48 pm

Hi All!

I've just put an order down for a new 3dr M140 Shadow. Went with SO and Oyster with the dark grey alloys, looks awesome to me and cannot wait until it arrives! I'm sufficiently excited that I just bought some spare rims for winters for when it arrives (I know the difference they make in my 120d, I can imagine it will be even more necessary with the extra horses on tap!)

Spec is:
Pro Nav
Auto
Sunroof
Folding mirrors w/ anti-dazzle
Heated Seats
Heated Steering Wheel (I know - but I get cold hands!)
PDC front and rear
reversing camera (the more sensors the better right?!)
Adaptive LED headlights (I'm hoping for the voodoo but I think the consensus seems to be heading in the direction that the voodoo headlights don't happen on the LCI2 1 series.

I now just need to figure what to do about my E82 (coupe) 120D, I've been offered a price for trade in but I was wondering what people might think it is worth, spec is as follows:

sparkling graphite 58 plate msport
106k miles
18" alloys
black leather
sunroof
DAB
middle of the road stereo (not the cheapest - not the HK)
Aftermarket bluetooth (a parrot 3100 or something)
Timing Chain has been replaced by BMW at just under 100k miles (got receipts)

I Would sell it with 16" steelies with winter tyres and roof bars so it feels like a nice neat little package for someone but I'm not sure how to price it! Any advice would be massively appreciated!

Cheers Guys, I look forward to join in the BMW manufacturing stalking thread when I get the necessary details!

Mark

Yeah I do, but want it under the 40k bracket. That would be my next option on the list, but the rest I think I'll get more out of more regularly 🙂

Correct, no voodoo. They aren't bad but I wouldn't choose them again.

Nice spec but if it were me and trying to stay below £40k I'd ditch heated steering wheel, front sensors and add adaptive, its a worthy option even if just to use in comfort when travelling over speed humps :)

Up to you obviously :) but Id never put in headlight stuff, any kind of camera or even satnav above Adaptive suspension after having one.

Definitely get adaptive suspension ! Had it on my m135 and got it on my shadow. I test drove both m140s with and without adaptive and felt very unstable on country roads when pushed on the one without it . Didn't go for adaptive lights this time didn't notice much difference. High beam assist isn't bad though .

I guess the views on this are fairly consistent! My thought process is that I do feel the adaptive headlights on the family Hyundai are pretty good on country lanes in the dark (where I will.sometimes drive. At the same time I figured I don't drive my car now at 9/10ths so I doubted I would notice any benefit of adaptive suspension on the new one.

Could anyone point me to reviews of adaptive suspension that swayed them either way. I've had a look on the forum and my search tells me that opinions aren't quite consistent on the need for adaptive suspension. I'm trying to get a feel for where adaptive suspension (both comfort and sport) sits in comparison to the passive suspension.

In the meantime I will talk to the dealer and see if there is any opportunity to test drive both back to back.

Cheers

Mark

My advice would be to choose your options which are important for you and ones which present value..

Problem with forums like this is that you get everyone chiming in saying that this and that is a "must" spec which might be important for them but not necessarily what might give you the most enjoyment..

Good luck with speccing your ideal car :)

Its hard to tell from text. Best would be to feel it.
Personally, after having DCC in Cupra and test driving m140 with adaptive, I wouldnt have it any other way.

Its softer than normal when you need it and its also stiffer than normal when you need it :)
Nobody can force or judge you because you dont have an adaptive suspenssion but its something Id advise to try somewhere.
