I’m on my last 2 days of M140 ownership. I will be incredibly sad to see it go, the engine the most, it’s a masterpiece.

I won’t miss the ride that made old injuries flare up though and one of the reasons she had to go.

Replaced by a 335d.
Firmness on a long trip is another reason. I find it fine for 100 miles or so, but yeah... admittedly, I did modify the ride with springs as OEM is a bit wallowy.

In an expensive circle.

Sold the M135i. Tried to do the sensible thing and bought a small hatchback (Audi A2), was relieved when a friend of a friend wanted to buy it from me, found an old E46 328i to smoke around in for a bit, took advantage of a Partner deal at work and ordered a M140i.

in all honesty im going to go nowhere after the baby M haha.... im just going to get a shadow edition and tick all the boxes that i wished i had ticked on this SE.... either that or see if the M2 comp makes a normal M2 a bit more within reach

I agree a 718 Cayman is a better looking better handling and more enjoyable to drive quickly then an mlite but its a fair bit more and has 2 seats, also servicing, parts all more expensive when I looked at a Cayman S. The Cayman vanilla lacks grunt as well in comparison IMO to the mlites, I would even go as far to say I was underwhelmed by its engine, great car though but for me its lack of power (although not exactly slow by any means) meant it was a no go.
Cayman S still doesn't feel as punchy in gear to me although it still felt rapid and I do love them. Had the S been that bit cheaper it may well have been parked on my drive as opposed the M2.

No denying both Caymans are fantastic.

Which model Cayman did you come from?

I test drove a 981 S last week and would love to go down that route when my current contact is up. I thought the engine and gearbox (PDK) combination was pretty special along with virtually every other part of the car.

I bought a new Cayman a few years ago: fantastic chassis and handling; way better than a Carrera I 'enjoyed' for a weekend. However I wouldn't begin to compare a £50k 2 seater with a 3/5 door hatchback that can be bought for half the price...

I came from a 987 gen 2 2.9, so quite a bit down on outright grunt than the m240i but a more enjoyable engine to thrash. I'll go back to either a gen 2 S model or a 981 S, which is a bit more modern but lacks some steering feel compared to the 987. I guess it's unfair to compare these cars against what is a cheaper hot hatch, but the servicing and runnings costs are not much different when you factor in depreciation.

So tempted with a Giulia at the moment even considering a 280 Veloce.
