Sorry to hear about this OP.

How are these people finding the cars? Are you just unlucky in that the wrong person drives past your house and sees the car? Or is it possible to find peoples cars online somehow? Or is someone at the DVLA selling the info to these low life scum?

Very concerning.
apparently they just drive around opportunistically looking for a nice car that's easy to get the keys for. They aren't too fussy, anything valuable. Quick German cars seem to be popular, plus Land/Range Rovers, Focus RS, etc.

It's not M-Lite specific, it's driveway specific. Recently reported on the forum:

0 M-Lites stolen by car-jacking/followed home
0 stolen via tow truck
0 stolen from garages
0 stolen when street parked
27 stolen/attempted when displayed on driveway, via home break-in for a fob.

wouldnt say its bothering me massively but its definitely happening enough for me to recognize there is an issue , especially after i got a random phone call from the police saying that they had seen me driving around where i live and to watch what i am doing as they are prone to been robbed at the moment especially due to the relay thing that was splashed all over the news the other week, im moving into my first house with the girlfriend next week , luckily i have a garage so mine will be going in there , the steps that i am taking are ... garage the motor , double lock on the gate , sash jammers , home intrusion alarm , the teflon glass film stuff that was on here a few days ago too , and all the keys are stored in tin foil down stairs haha .... will be getting a dog next year too , not solely to defend the car or anything just because ill be working away a fair bit next year and itd put are lass at ease a bit .... if they manage to get the car after all that ill tip my cap and send them on there way , theyd have earned it

A home burglar alarm is obviously the answer here if your car is on the drive, the thieves broke through the door to steal the keys and the owner was still sleeping. It happened to me in 2000, I now take security more seriously.

Reading posts like this directly resulted in me clearing out the garage for my M2. My 240i lived on the drive in a nice area - keys in a metal box at night along with a staffy and garaging the motor give me a little piece of mind. The gf's car backed tight upto the garage door too - again all down to posts I've been reading, boils my blood that people work hard and can't enjoy the fruits of their labour!!!

Thanks for the comments and advice and we are all ok thank you. Bit of a rollercoater few days but apparently the car has minor damage so will be getting it back at some point and will get to know what the cost will be, taking the excess into account. I have got a good size garage, bigger than a single and more like a 1 and a 1/2 size, but it’s been converted for another use. I’ll plan to fit 2 or 3 telescopic bollards to the front of the drive, I’d rather do that than rip the garage apart, and probably a security light for the drive. I still begrudge doing it though but looks like I will need to do it.

I once had a motorbike stolen after having been tracked on a couple of occasions for where I live. I'm now often conscious of that, and will usually vary my way to my house, avoiding in particular travel back through certain parts.

I park off road, and have recently taken to ensuring I return early enough to park the car within sight of the house, leaving patio lights one, the hall lights on, and leaving a light on downstairs with close curtains...

However, having a car that's still under 6 inches of snow and having today watched a neighbour shovel snow for a full hour and make more than half a dozen attempts to get his fwd car to move forward 12 inches, I feel that I have discovered the ultimate deterrent.

Sorry to hear this OP, hopefully it will be written off and you can get all your cash back....it’s just the house invasion nothing can resolve. 😩
Seems to be rife and has got worse since I started paying particular attention over the last 2 years to how many break ins for keys there has been reported (inc myself).

Would be interested to hear where in Lancashire this is also being being in Lancashire myself.

I am not sure 'targeted' is the correct terminology as it suggests that the Mlites are in some way being singled out by car thieves, personally I don't think they are on that fact alone. I think its generally any expensive car (and also inexpensive ones such as Fiesta ST's etc) and also an element of picking what may be considered easier targets. Personally my opinion is if I see a front door with only a Yale type lock, or just a crap cheap euro lock, and no sign of a secondary lock such as a 5 lever lock or a back gate which offers little security, I also think I doubt the rear of the house is secure either which offers a thief some cover.

It would be interesting to know out of the 25 plus milites which have been reported stolen on here via a break in for the keys, how the burglars gained entry to the property and what security they managed to get through, lock snapping cheap euro cylinders has definitely been the entry point for a fair few.
