So looking at the above table I can happily drive at 67 in a 60 and never get done for speeding. I doubt that very much in our area.
Why ? A friend of mine is just about to do the Speed Awareness Course for 34 in a 30.
They are merely guidelines, discretion will be with the officer who stopped you or the authority who set the threshold on the camera.

As per the above table - it's 10% + 9 mph.

It's the same in Suffolk since the police lost revenue from fines - very little leeway given now before a speed awareness course or fine.

3 points here. NIP came through the day after I ordered the 140, after 18 clean years. Combined with zero NCD after years in company cars I half expected it to make getting insurance quite difficult, but it doesn't seem to have made much difference (unlike the no-fault claim from some idiot driving into me a couple of years ago).

No feeling sorry for myself over getting caught and fined, only myself to blame for that. Mildly aggrieved that I was clocked at 79 in a 60 when I'm pretty certain I would have been under 75 - the difference between a course and points - but that's definitely not a fight worth picking.

No, these are just guidelines. Technically you can get done for doing 31 in a 30.

Newer speed cameras/guns are much more accurate than the old ones, so they no longer have to give you a 10% + 2mph 'benefit of the doubt'. It's at the discretion of the officer/authorities. Plus your car's speedo will always over-read the speed (assuming you have the correct wheel/tyre size).

The 10% + 2mph was never about the accuracy of the cameras. It was a recommendation of the now defunct ACPO (Association of Chief Police Officers) and whilst it was guidance, it was mandatory for any Police force that wanted to join the Safety Camera Partnership and therefore keep part of the revenue from fixed penalty notices. Any force that wasn't a member of the partnership didn't have to adhere to 10% +2 mph - I think most did join to get the cash.

Now that the Safety Camera Partnership is no more (as in not funded from fines), individual Police forces have no incentive to routinely allow 10% + 2 mph, but do have an incentive to offer safety awareness courses under the banner of education. They also get a referral fee for everyone who attends a course. Make of that what you will.

In BMWs (if not most cars/bikes), clocks will read 32 at a true 30 (assuming standard wheel size)

How many people have been charged for speeding since the new rules came in for England and Wales?

41+ In a 30mph zone is a band B offence. The fine for that is now 75-125% of a person's weekly income.

Easily done, that’s why SLD is a must for me.

Hope the camera didn’t have film in it for your sake, as that is above the cut off for a speed awareness course.

I can't imagine you would be looking at your display when accelerating out onto a dual carriageway.

Personally, I use Android Sygic Speed Cameras - not for it to warn me of cameras but its ability to show the speed limit and my speed over any other app. This is in addition to Waze which is more accurate and updates quicker when moving from one limit to another combined with an audible warning for exceeding the limit by a set percentage- 10% in my case.

Those rules apply if you are subject to a Court summons. The vast majority of speeding offences are still dealt with by the offer of a course or FPN and 3 points.

That's why i had asked who'd been charged. .

I've read about a few people getting substantial fines. One guy got around a £2500 fine for 66 in a 40mph. A lawyer offered his services and appealed and got it down to £600 or so.

OK - To be pedantic, most people subject to court proceedings for speeding offences receive a summons as oppose to being charged by the Police.

Either way, a lot of articles that were published nearer the time failed to point out that the new rules wouldn't apply for the majority of offences.

Happy New Year :-)

It's not like you to pick fights and get all pedantic. I'm sure most people understood my question without having to spell it out and pick an unnecessary argument.

Sounds like 2018 has got off to a flyer for you. Happy new year.

I had 7 points but been clean for 5years. I did get caught on xmas day though! The letter arrived on 29th!
It says a speed awareness course would be offered if the speed is 10% of the limit plus 9mph. This was for a 60mph zone - I got caught at 71mph so should be ok for the course.
