How to solve my rattly exhaust problem

Post by Dange20 » Sat Jan 13, 2018 6:43 pm

Had a few times when ive heard my exhaust rattle, very intermitant and not often but when it has its very annoying and embarrasing! Feel like a whole lot of problems have come my way recently! Aswell as the usb port seems to not work either, i have contacted bmw uk who got the dealer to book my car in after i emailed the dealer and didnt evan get a reply, i no this is a problem with the exhaust, i dont want to be making 80 mile trips to the garage to get it sorted everyweek, what can i do to get this problem rectified once and once only? Anyone have any tips or advice?

M135i? M240i? What age? :? Why not add some car details to your signature?

You don't have to return to your original dealer if it's under warranty, whichever dealership is closest is fine.

Here is what I did on my 440i. start up put in sport mode unplug actuator above left exhaust (opens flap). Sounds better on cold start + stops that horrid noise. Sorted just need to order dummy plug to protect cable. :)

Great option, but my theory is, my car wasnt made or designed this way so why should i put up with it? There not cheap cars so the isdue should be fixed not habe a plaster over the problem, this is german engineering so id like to see it

Very true I paid a lot for my 440 lci and they are also suffering the rattle https://youtu.be/A5GL2wpwXNU my video here this was after about 2 weeks of ownership. It’s done it approx 12 times in 9 months. so was having a look other week as it had just done it and thought keep the flap open all time and see it that stops it. So far so good. But as u did say it shouldn’t happen on new cars. all I can say is the standard exhaust must be poorly made. Hopefully mppsk will be on order soon :)

Rather than start multiple threads on the same issue may I suggest this is merged and/or redirected to the already well-established thread?

Good point - I was just putting my help across that’s all.
