Mysterious scratches

Post by scov1984 » Sun Jan 14, 2018 11:29 am

I took delivery of my car on 1st September 2017 (Sapphire Black) and have 'safe washed' it every couple of weeks since then.

When I last washed the car in December, I noticed some scratches on the boot lid and rear bumper (mainly passenger side). I assumed I had done this during the wash process (grit in my wash mitt or something).

I washed the car again yesterday and noticed that the scratches have worsended in exactly the same place!!

I reaslised that this is not down to me as the scratches are only on the rear boot lid and bumper. Again, mainly towards the pasenger side, but there are also some on the drivers side at the bottom of the bumper, in the corner.

Having looked closely under a light at these scratches, I'm pretty certain that they are caused by debris whilst the car is in motion. Therefore the car is causing its own scratches which it would appear I can do noting about!!

So, is this just happenin to me? (Surely not?!) Are other M140i/M135i owners noticing this?

I presume it's due to the car being RWD and flicking debris off the rear tyres which are scratchng the paint at speed. Annoying!
