Wheel bolt size?

Post by drifterr » Sat Mar 17, 2018 2:57 pm

Just went to install the spacers off my e82 135i on my M240i and it would appear the bolts on the 40i are different.
Any one have the measurement of the bolt?

Thanks.

M14 x 1.25

Make sure you haven't damaged your hub with the old M12's?

Cheers Marco, which hubs are you referring too? The e82?

M240i. I'm hoping you haven't tried torquing an M12 in an M14 thread and damaged the threads, but in hindsight I assume they were like a dick in a bucket?

Ahh no, course not lol. I could feel the difference when I took the bolt out of the 240i and then held up side by side and could see the difference!

Can't find any M14x1.25 40mm bolts other than in kits with spacers.
The only bolts I can find are 43mm, will they be ok with 12mm spacers?

As a gut reaction, I'd guess you'd need 38 - 39mm??

4 - 5mm too long (assuming that's right) could cause issues with the handbrake mechanism, or maybe it's not enough to cause issues?

Yep, 39mm is the absolute correct size which you obviously can't get. Found 40mm which wasn't the issue, the issue was the locking set which I finally found last night!
