Tire pressure question

Post by Gump12 » Sun Mar 18, 2018 5:23 pm

Hi guys,

Forgive me is this is a very stupid question but I just want to be sure!

I got the standard pilot supersports with the M140

On the tire, its the 225/40 ZR 18 88Y

On the image below the tire size is in the right hand column of the pressure chart. On the left hand side for the other tyre types there is two numbers left and right for the front and rear tyres. With two sets depending on the ammount of people in the car.

On the 225/40 ZR 18 88Y line though it only had 32 and below it 39. (is this laden and unladen or is this front and rear)

Second question, seeing as we are in freezing tempures at the moment in the UK, what temperature outside would you wait for it to be in order to check tire pressure?

Thanks guys!

The front pressures are under the picture of the front wheels, the rear pressures are under the picture of the rear wheels. 3 people means standard loading, 5 people indicates heavily laden.

Tyre pressures should always be checked when stone cold, so approx 0° currently. They will obviously have to be adjusted down as the ambient temp rises in the coming weeks.

For 225/40 ZR 18 88Y its laden and unladen as you'll have 245 width on the rear.

Ah!

I was more confused about why the zero 18 88y only had one box filled and the other blank, it might be because there is a different size tire on the rear! If so I’ll chdck in the morning and no doubt I’ll feel like a fool!

Thank you for the response lads, knew I could count on this forum!

My tyre sensors are driving me crazy.

Been repeated bleeping up on me over the past year, Even though the pressures didn’t look worrying.

Finally decided to stick pump to them to make sure they were as they should be according to the label on the door.

Now it won’t even let me reset as it’s going to ultra crazy. Tempted to contact BMW.

That's quite a confusing chart. Mine groups the tyre on my car together. I also notice GUMP12's chart has the rears at 35 psi and mine chart it's 32 psi

How are the outer edges wearing and what miles have you done on them at 35psi? I'm running 34 front 35 back, should i increase the fronts?

Just taken delivery of my new M240 which was supplied with MPSS - these seem to have loads of grip once I get some heat into them but as I'm running the car in I don't think I'll be pushing the envelope for a while....

The sticker on the door pillar says I should be running 32 all round but as it's currently running 34/35 all round it sounds like the dealer (either through luck or choice) has supplied the car with the pressures everyone is recommending for MPSS :D

Ive always ran 34 psi all round on mine and suits me perfect.

Got 4 new tyres couple months ago they were all at 40... The thing was almost undrivable.

That’s rare lol. Mine was delivered with 48psi all round. It did not make for a great drive home from the dealers!

So do the 2 different charts apply to runflats and proper tyres.
