Morning Marco, have you got round to fitting the catch can to Skippy mk2 yet?

I'm picking my car up soon and I want to know how easy this is to install

Not easy. The kit I purchased is for an 335i / 535i N55 I suspect, no room.

I've had a bit of a go, it required the kits' new adapter hack-sawing down to size:

It would require a custom bracket and the engine cover trimming, but even then, not a good fit with hoses fouling.

Shame, I don't like the idea of getting a brand new car and cutting bits off it. Hopefully a F2x version comes out soon

Updated with pics ^ .

Got a funny feeling you'll see a butchered Catch-can going on eBay shortly for 99p! :(

Had to give up and go to work, there's nowhere obvious to mount it.

Also, the shiny silicone pipe is tapered, and way too long. Where I've had to cut it, it's now just a bit too loose to fit the catch-can snugly. Might crush down with a jubilee clip or two....

Just ordered mine, hopefully the N54 version is easier.

£150 direct from burger tuning

By the looks of the step by step it should be ok.

Catch Can Ordered....

Post by goebes » Sun Jun 15, 2014 8:31 am

Marco you there mate?

Question did you disconnect the two electrical plugs underneath the cabin filter thing? I tried yesterday to fit mine but that tray is in the road unless I disconnect those plugs, one is for the bonet release indicator I think the other I've no idea (both on extreme opposite sides of the engine bay.

I could do it without disconnecting but it fouls the engine cover and when I saw all those wires on top of the engine I crapped myself and chickened out lol

Mine's an F21 Chap, completly different engine bay layout / loom.

I would expect to have to trim the engine cover though.

Ahh ok no worries, I'll give it another go once the sun comes out..

Gotta admit though the build quality of the can is amazing!

I seriously wouldn't worry about this problem unless your keeping the car for many years but as said just give the car a good sustained run on a frequent basis. All cars will gunk up to some degree but modern engines/oils and fuels are much better compared to cars I owned 30 years ago and even then you would have to be doing reasonably high mileages to require a decoke of the head and valves.

I certainly woiuldn't be butchering a new engine to fit a non approved part.

Tim.

How does giving it a good sustained run remove burned-on block-breather oil from the back of the inlet valves Tim?

Cars 30 years ago didn't have direct injection and egr control amongst other emission control systems

Most modern cars with direct injection and egr end up suffering from carbon build up
Only way to prevent it is stop the carbon getting in to the intake system
