I agree, direct injection will always end up with the back of the inlet valves caked in baked-on oil, imo.

Giving it a long, hot run won't help in the slightest, surely?

In my experience a long run won't help at all, maybe in a race engine running flat out it maybe fine

But 90% of the time the intake air speed is slow and that's when the carbon sticks and gets cooked on to what ever it touches

I wouldn't say fitting a catch can is a complete waste of time however I'm of the understanding the benefits are really very little in the real world and with normal mileage and driving. I may be wrong but the detergents in a quality oil will aid in keeping the valves clean, hence minimising deposit build up. There will be blow by on a standard engine so fitting a can will certainly help but reading about this mod over the years the actual benefits seem to be very little when cars have been inspected with an without cans fitted, not saying I'm correct but just commenting on what people have found when inspecting high mileage engines. I think minimising deposit build up by using a quality oil from the start and frequent oil changes would be just as good. Doing lots of short trips won't help but undertaking a good run more often will lessen the build up of deposits.

I think if your planning on keeping the car indefinitely then it might have benefits over the long term.

I would be interested if you manage to fit one how you get on and whats collected over time.

Tim.

Catch Can Ordered....

It was £150 not the price of a 911

Anyone spent £100 on a good night on the p*ss?

If this mod makes even 1% difference to the longevity of my 135 it's money well spent.

Did you keep your OCC fitted in the end Marco?

No, I never got it fitted. There wasn't a sensible place to mount the can, and the E82 hoses/brackets/fittings didn't work for the F21. Intentionally buying the wrong N55 kit was a risk which didn't pay off.

I ended up selling the kit to ProduceThis for peanuts.
