So the MP LSD requires a run-in diff oil change, which again increases the overall cost of ownership. So I've decided to go with the Quaife.

If the exchange core that will be rebuilt for me has approx 10k kms, will that be at all a concern for anyone given that mine only has 2k kms? Oil seals will obviously be new, and the guys that are rebuilding it - SouthernBM - sound like they know what they're doing.

If you look on the Bird's website, the video on "LSD conversion" is actually a video made by SouthernBM. http://www.birdsauto.com/product-inform ... versions-0

It doesn't need a running in change. Where did you get that info? You can choose to do it.

No, lifetime oil, allegedly.

Mine gets changed every 20k as it's only a 10 minute / £15 job, easy DIY.

Yeah I was put off by the BMW dealership who quoted me $275 AUD. hence why I was quite annoyed and am going down the Quaife road instead.

Ahh... decisions... decisions...

Re: lsd: STANDARD DIFF M140i

Post by penguinman » Thu Jan 12, 2017 2:17 pm

This may interest people reading this thread. I took delivery of a new M140i, manual gearbox just before Christmas and had the M Performance Diff fitted by the dealer at part of the PDI. This means I have an unused zero miles standard diff in my garage. Will be put in classified ads under parts when I can work out how to post it! I won't put price or anything here as I know will break the rules.

What's a stock diff (that everyone already has) worth? Wouldn't it be more cost effective to sell the M Performance Drexler once you're done with the car?

Good point, but I Intend to keep the car for foreseeable future, and have enough stuff in garage, so thought It may be useful for somebody, rather than gather dust, and take up space. Still thinking about what to ask for it. Not after silly money, but at least it would make a contribution to the cost of the new car.

Sent the spare brand new M140 diff I have off to Birds today ready to have a quaife fitted by them. Hopefully have it back next week.

Really looking forward to getting it in and seeing what it's like.

Do you've think there's enough interest to enquire about a geoupnbuy from the likes of Cotswold?

I'd be in for that.

Cotswold did a quote for me the other day £2500ish fitted. Exact details in their section.

Am getting a quote from my local dealer to see what they can do but I know Cotswold are normally very keenly priced.

Edit: link to Cotswold price : viewtopic.php?f=49&t=94194
