So if a m240 is coming at £40720 on the road cash price on the bmw configurator, is that including first year VED? If so would I need to knock off the £500 tax and then I need to lose £220 of options?
Depends if manual or automatic too, co2 is different band so different 1st year tax.

Co2 now has nothing to do with tax.

Co2 still does have an effect on the first year tax on a new car.

So if auto it is £500 + £55 registration fee

I think it might be fuel too, but if you're sorted on spec, send it to Tony and he'll confirm, then advise how to switch options around to fit under the bracket.

£40,860 is what the spec of the M240i I'm fairly set on comes to on BMW configurator with new prices.

Auto
EB
Pro media
Advanced speaker
Folding mirrors
Sun protection

Does that mean for sure I either drop £305 worth of options off or get swindled on road tax for 5 years?!?

You could drop the advanced speakers and sun protection and get them done properly aftermarket for probably much less and definitely much less than the extra tax.

Oh and it's interesting that the 240 is now £20pm cheaper than the supposedly £2k less expensive M140!

If £40,860 is the OTR price on BMW configurator, I believe you can subtract £500 for the RFL on an auto and £55 for vehicle first registration fee, to arrive at the taxable £40k threshold sum, meaning you would need to lose around £300 plus of options to avoid being stung.

I’d double check with TRL on this as others have suggested but think that’s how the tax aspect works to best of my own knowledge.

On another point regarding the folding mirrors, I can’t understand why they are £275 on an M240i but only £145 on an M140i - there is no earthly reason for any difference, both cars come with Interior comfort package as standard which is what reduces the M140i folding mirror price to £145.

The fact list prices have gone up is one thing, but to find things like cruise has gone up from £360 to £400 now and heated seats from £295 to £315 is another blow and makes speccing an M240i that much trickier.

You’d think our beloved BMW would be making enough out of all the “M performance” front grilles which are basically cheaper for them to produce than the chromed ones - there should be a discount between the two if anything.

Bit like Del Boy selling his tatty plastic briefcases as “Olde English Vinyl” :)

Out of interest would MP parts fitted at dealer be counted into the price?

Or could the dealer justifiably invoice you separately for them as they aren't factory options as far as i'm aware?

Dealer fit options such as MP parts fall outside of the factory fit £40k kick in the pants tax threshold AFAIK.

Hi All, first post :)

Looking at the the price rise at the beginning of the month what do you think will happen to the offers for the M240i in Q2?

I was originally looking to get a M240i in the next month or 2 however, looking at this price rise and the price increase from Q4 2017 to Q1 2018 offers i am thinking i should be trying to get one this month!

The price rise is an annual thing, the amount of discount/deposit contribution/APR rate is never known until the first day of the quarter and Tony is quick to update each time. The GFV can change at anytime I think (but in 12 months I've not known it change other than the quarterly refresh).

Factors which will affect Q2 are how much stock BMW have and how much they need to sell before the Next Generation cars come out. It's unlikely to change much, but that's just a hunch. I'd get an order in. If the price changes and is more expensive you're protected but if it goes down you could cancel and recorder if your spec isn't locked down.
