With reference to the £40k tax threshold, is it the RRP or the discounted OTR price that would be considered?

My understanding is that it is the RRP or manufacturers list price that is used for the basis of the £40k tax threshold. Technically I believe the figure used is the “P11D” value which is the list price minus RFL and I think the first registration fee may also be deducted within this figure.

So on a manual M240i, AFAIK it would be the OTR price as detailed on BMW configurator, minus £800 for RFL and I think minus £55 for first registration fee. An auto would be minus £500 RFL due to difference in CO2.

Fairly sure this is how it works, but perhaps TRL could confirm I’m not going daft. :)

So frustrating. The only 2 options I’d want, Pro Media and HK push it over the £40k limit and I’m not paying an extra £450 per year in tax from year 2.

I think it's £310 extra per year as the tax is £140 per year if it's below the luxury car tax threshold..

Seeing it's quite normal to get around 15% discount on these cars BMW would have been wiser to cut the RRP of the car and options and just give less margins for the dealers to play (or more margins in the cars and less back end bonuses) with.. Dealers can also offer less for p/x to make back some of the cost to change, so everyone's happy :D

I wonder if by offering discounts it gives the potential customer the pschological effect of I must buy this as I'm saving so much £

Deako, an auto M240i with pro media and HK isn't over the threshold, you can go to £40,555 on the bmw configurator.

So assuming you wanted alpine white, auto, HK and pro media you are below the "luxury car tax" amount.

Or offer a lot of the good options in a pack like the Shadow Edition Just under the £40k threshold.

Agreed.

Its holding me off making an order.
I know just days after making my order, BMW will release an 'Edition' version of the M240i.

I cant see why they haven't already got one, sure they did the 750pcs Performance edition (I think that wasn't available in the UK)
The M140i has the Shadow Edition, surely its only a matter of time before the 240 gets something.

What do I know anyway.

Longer I hold out the bigger deposit I have = the lower the monthly payments is..

I'm in no rush as i said i'd get one "this year", and we are only in march.

Release of a shadow edition whilst waiting for delivery of your 240i would be devastating

I'm also in no rush, as you say while waiting you can just increase your deposit.

Although I would like one for summer.

I'm sure there are many others like us just waiting for BMW to do the right thing.

I can't see a shadow edition 2 series.

Was brought out for end of life 1 series.

Just buy it now and enjoy it instead of hoping for a special edition.
Current: M240i manual EB with cognac.
Gone: m135i auto MG

Tony,

Is there likely to be a better or similar deal for Q2? Thinking of upgrading from my Fiesta ST...

Cheers,

Max

I noticed the 440 is being offered at 1.9%, 240 at 3.9% and 140 at 4.9% APR's respectively, is that just a supply and demand thing? The less BMW are selling the lower rates they offer? Some dealers offering X cars on 0%!

I always assumed BMW would have flat rates across the ranges

The BMW quoted APR is just part of the way the discounting structure is made up. TBF the amount of APR is irrelevant it's the overall discount and deal to compare. The APR went up sometime last year on the 140, but the GFV went up too so monthlies were hardly any different.

The 0% deals that are offered by dealers when the BMW quoted rate is higher are usually instead of a larger discount off the list price. As a made up example, Tony might be able to give you £2k extra off the car but at 3.9% where as another dealer would give you no extra discount and 0%. Sometimes the 0% is also only on group stock to shift the demand they've built up in the warehouse. It's the total cost of those monthly payments to consider.

As someone who intends on buying the car outright at the end of the PCP term I have been comparing deals based on total overall cost:

Deposit + Total of 47 monthly payments + GFV
