Re: Oil advice and Recommendation
Hi
You can use either in your car. As it doesn't have a plated LSD, it doesn't need the friction modifiers for LSDs, but if you used an oil for an LSD, it doesn't cause a problem.
Cheers
Tim

Re: Oil advice and Recommendation
Just ordered some Redline (along with some tailored car mats - a great price)
What's your view on changing auto gearbox oil? My '09 reg 130i is an auto with 64k miles - have discussed it on this forum and the general consensus seemed to be leave well alone until it feels like it needs doing. The auto box behaves faultlessly so going on that advice I wouldn't touch it. Its at the back of my mind so just wondered what your view would be? Many thanks in advance.

Re: Oil advice and Recommendation
Thanks for the order.
We deal directly with ZF who make that box (I assume yours doesn't have the GM box, I think they were only on early cars) and when I was speaking to them, they state that the change interval is 60000 miles, not fill for life as BMW suggest, so personally, I would go with what the gearbox makers say, rather than BMW.
Cheers

Re: Oil advice and Recommendation
Many thanks for the reply Tim. Yes it is the ZF box. I too don't go along with the 'fill for life' theory. I'm happy to have it done if I can find the right man to do the job. I'm doing the diff oil change myself that's straightforward enough but I don't fancy tackling an oil change on the auto box. I'm generally asking around to see how I would entrust with it. Cheers again.oilman wrote: ↑Mon Jul 10, 2017 3:03 pmThanks for the order.

Re: Oil advice and Recommendation
If you can get someone to do it, we have the Fuchs ATF 4134 and ZF Lifeguard 6 fluids for it. Apparently there are videos on Youtube that will help a mechanic if they are unsure.

Re: Oil advice and Recommendation
Cheers for that Tim. Good idea - just watched a YouTube video - Bavarian autosport changing the auto box oil on a BMW E39. Actually not half as bad as I thought - still not something I would attempt myself but I think I can find somebody I could entrust with the job.oilman wrote: ↑Mon Jul 10, 2017 3:29 pmIf you can get someone to do it, we have the Fuchs ATF 4134 and ZF Lifeguard 6 fluids for it. Re: Oil advice and Recommendation
I think this is the one that you want, the E39 has the earlier box.

Re: Oil advice and Recommendation
Many thanks for that link Tim - have just watched that video too. Its all the same procedure for changing the autobox oil on that ZF transmission as on the E39 - the E39 has a seperate filter whereas with the ZF the filter is incorporated into the pan which means a whole new pan - that is basically the only difference what you have to do to change the oil is all the same. Great vids though so have a pretty good idea now cheersoilman wrote: ↑Tue Jul 11, 2017 8:57 amI think this is the one that you want, the E39 has the earlier box.

Re: Oil advice and Recommendation
Nice one. Got mine booked in for service. With them supplying the oil it was £304 with me supplying the oil it's £194 and I got the oil for £61. I'm happy with that

Sorry about the code not working guys!
We've had a look into it, and it looks like there was an error with our admin system with this code, so it has been updated to: BBMW
This will give you 10% as the original code did.
Hope this helps,
