Oil advice and Recommendation

Post by oilman » Thu Feb 06, 2014 10:14 am

If you would like any oil advice or a recommendation for your car please feel free to ask here and we will get back to you as soon as we can.

To help us to give the most accurate advice possible we do need some information about your car. e.g:

Make:
Model:
Year:
Engine type:
Performance modifications:
Driving style: (road / off-road / track etc)
Any other information that may be relevant: e.g. approx BHP if modified, oil temps if known
What recommendation are you looking for? Engine, Gearbox, Diff etc.

Any oil we recommend is available to buy from us (if you would like to) for delivery throughout the UK and many destinations in Europe. We offer a really extensive range of oils and lubricants from 11 major oil manufacturers at prices much lower than the high street and main dealers. We stock oils and fluids that meet pretty much all manufacturers and international specifications. Our brands include, Silkolene, Fuchs, Gulf, Castrol, Motul, Mobil, Millers Oils, Shell, Valvoline, Amsoil and Redline.

The good news is, now the Club is a member of our club discount scheme you can discounts of at least 10% across our entire range.

To redeem your 10% club discount simply use the following club discount code at the checkout.

BABYB

Once the code is added at the checkout you will then receive your extra 10% club discount. However this discount code cannot be used in conjunction with other offer codes, BUT the code can be used in conjunction with any of our offers on this page HERE that do not require offer codes.

Any questions please ask here or contact us via email at sales@opieoils.co.uk

Finally, if there are any products we don't stock and you have difficulty getting hold of elsewhere, let us know and we'll see if we can stock them.

We look forward to being of help!

Cheers

Assuming mostly road use, what are you recommending for BMW M135i N55 3.0 Turbo's currently please?

Hi

From what I understand, they can get very hot, even with normal road use, so I would go for one of the BMW LL04 approved oils, but in a 5w-40 grade.

Thanks Tim.

I've been monitoring oil temps over the past few days, current max peak has been 118° (I think). Is that 'very hot' ?

Hi

That is pretty warm, but fine for a 5w-40, so go for one of the LL04 approved 5w-40s

What about using a Fuchs Pro-S 10w/50 for fastroad and track use on a 2008 n54 135i ? ive got some left over from my Evo trackcar and always use it in and that so thinking it should be ok in the BMW, even though its not a LL approved oil ?.....does the LL just mean more detergents for longer life between services ? or are there other issues from not using an LL oil ?

Cheers
Ian

Hi Ian

It wouldn't be my choice, other than for track use. Pro S 5w-40 would be a better option, that can handle up to about 130C and will give better cold start protection. If you change the oil annually/10k I can't see a reason why the Pro S 5w-40 wouldn't be a good choice, but other than summer track use, I wouldn't use the 10w-50.

BMW LL approvals mean that the oil is designed to last the duration of the service and basically be good enough quality for the car. Pro S definitely has the quality, it just doesn't have the longevity.

Cheers

Thanks Tim, i would never leave the oil in for the duration BMW recommend its just too long for my old school way of thinking and i would change it after every trackday, or 2 at most if i started doing trackdays in this car, no matter what the oil spec.

Cheers
