Hi

I would use a really good 5w-40 synthetic and service it annually/10k, rather than following the BMW longlife schedule.

http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-656-5w-40.aspx" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Out of those, the best ones are the Fuchs/Silkolene Pro S, Millers CFS/CFS NT, Motul 300V, Red Line and Gulf Competition.

If you want to stick with a BMW approved oil, one of the LL01 or LL04 5w-40s will be suitable.

http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-686-bmw-longlife-04.aspx" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Cheers

How about Amsoil engine oils? Their gear oils rate highly.

Hi

Sorry for the delay, we've had some email problems, so looks like I didn't get a notification that you'd replied.

Amsoil engine oils are good, but they aren't cheap, most only come in US quarts and at the moment there is a problem with getting stock into the UK. If you can get them and don't mind paying, they are good oils.

Cheers

Advice needed on which engine oil's best for my BMW, including grade and brand please

Make: BMW
Model: 123D E87 MSport
Year: 2010
Engine type: Diesel 2.0L twin-turbo
Performance modifications: none
Driving style: Road
Any other information that may be relevant: Right now it's stock, but I might consider a DPF removal/EGR delete and a generic remap up to 250 BHP
What recommendation are you looking for? Engine

I read that the recommended oil is 0W30 LL04, while others recommended the 10W60 - which one is best? Some other relevant info perhaps - we have very hot summers here, daily temperature's well over 30 degrees Celcius. Lots of short-distance driving, consider it as 100% city driving as I live on a small island. Please provide me with as detailed an answer as possible, thanks :)

Hi

The 123D only needs a 10w-60 in some of the earlier models. In yours it should be a LL04 oil.

http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-686-bmw-longlife-04.aspx

Those oils are all good options as they need to be to meet the BMW specification, so take your pick based on any price/brand preference you have, although if it burns at lot of oil, go for one of the 5w-40s.

Hi

You need an engine oil that meets the BMW LL04 specification. Our selection can be found through the link below

http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-686-bmw-longlife-04.aspx" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Those oils are all good options as they need to be to meet the BMW specification, so take your pick based on any price/brand preference you have, although if it burns at lot of oil, go for one of the 5w-40s.

This is ideal for the gearbox

http://www.opieoils.co.uk/p-68895-fuchs ... 23614.aspx" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

The diff needs a 75w-90 GL5 oil.

http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-673-75w-90- ... fluid.aspx" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

The Fuchs Syn 5, Millers CRX, Red Line 75w-90 GL5, Motul Gear 300 and Gulf Competition are ideal for the diff. The Fuchs Sintopoid, Castrol Syntrax Longlife, Millers TRX, Motul Motylgear, Mobil SHC and Gulf Syngear are also good choices.
