Locate car on Connected App

Post by CaptFish » Tue Jan 02, 2018 11:45 pm

Can anybody advise how the connected app works properly? Mine seems to lock/ unlock the car and switch on the lights, but the app does not give me the location, not the fuel level, range, etc...
The app says the car has been last updated back in Sept 2017, presume when it rolled off the line. I uninstalled and reinstalled the app, no difference. I am probably not that bothered about the fuel, but the location service would help put my mind at ease when I am not at home. The app suggests that GPS needs to be turned on in idrive, but I can't work out how.
Any help, or does this service require extra payment with BMW?

It is in the settings on the IDrive, have a scroll through until you find the option for GPS and turn it on, should all work fine then.

Thanks for the help, there seems to be no option to activate gps under the 'my vehicle' setting in idrive?
Just lights, doors, speed warning, configure sport and aux ventilation.
It's idrive6.

How annoying! Works in mine, worth stopping off at a BMW garage and having a whinge at them?

Definitely worth activating - I had an M135i stolen last yr and the police found it through this! It should update the location everytime you turn-off/lock the vehicle I think (well that's how mine works).

Thanks for your help, much appreciated. I called bmw assistance and they forwarded the issue to their connected app team. The chap could not help any more via the phone.
If anybody could shed it would really help. Car is going for its FIS next week and it would be good to have this activated.

Still no update from bmw. Called them today and they took a note of everything and asked me to send them screenshots of the app and idrive.
No location in phone, all the car status date is wrong and in idrive I don't have a car tracking menu option.

Did you allow the app to use the location services?

Still no wiser on this matter. Have contacted BMW who are looking into it.
However, keen to find out more myself in the meantime. Could somebody here with an LCI M2 and new idrive compare the options they are getting under the 'my vehicle' setting in idrive? In the manual it advised that you can switch on 'vehicle tracking', but I can't see that option in my menu, see attached photo.
Any help is appreciated.

Have you tried moving location and then looking for the "Vehicle Tracking" option? It should be right under "Auxillary ventillation" (I have a photo but it's potato quality).

The reason I suggest moving is from your photo it is lacking the GPS/"Current vehicle position" symbol.

With moving location do you mean trying after driven to a different location? If so, then yes. I have tried it at diverent places and never seen the vehicle tracking option.
