Tow bar with flange(?) fitting

Post by Babaa » Tue Jan 02, 2018 10:42 pm

Hi all,

Was just wondering if anyone with the Active Tourer has had a detachable tow bar fitted that wasn't the one you could select from BMW when new?

We have a bike rack that needs a different fitment on the end than a standard tow ball (I think it is called a 'flange' fitting - just looks like a flat metal plate with some bolt holes), and I know that we got a Witter branded one on the last car, but as it seems like an over £500 cost, just wanted to ask if anyone else has had any good ones fitted to consider.

Cheers -- Babaa

Hi Blind Pugh,

Thanks, I think that is pretty much the one I was looking at, though when I factor in adding the fitting, wanting it to be detachable and the electric kit, they seem to come in between £500 and £600 in the end:

Before spending that much I wanted to see if maybe others had already gone and got one to know if better / cheaper alternatives (or maybe if the BMW one would work), but if not, think I'll just go for a Witter one as at least I know it will work, albeit a bit costly.

Cheers -- Babaa
