2 Series Active Tourer Collected

Postby chirpy » Sat Nov 01, 2014 9:23 pm

Well, today we picked up our 2 Series Active Tourer from Berry Heathrow and our thanks go especially to TRL and to Mo for their sterling service.

Many see the 2AT as anathema - being front-wheeled drive and an "MPV", but it is the perfect car for us. Size wise it is very similar in length and width as a 1 series, but taller. It looks more like a large hatchback to me, rather than an true MPV. With the 3 cylinder engine in front it makes for a very roomy cabin and a much roomier pair of back seats/boot area. Setting the driver seat for me at 6' 1" and then sitting behind I had plenty of leg room. Not so in the 120d.

As mentioned, we've gone for the 3 cylinder 218i. Driving was a bit odd at first, but only because it's my first ever automatic. After hitting the kickdown a couple of times by mistake I soon got the hang of it though. Perhaps the biggest change for me is adjusting from using engine braking in the manual compared to mostly just braking in the automatic.

The 1.5 engine is actually quite lively and easily reached legal speeds rapidly. It's nice not having the diesel rattle, but the 3 cylinder does have its own freely revving sound. Motorway speeds were quieter than the 120d and that's with bigger wheels on the 2AT.

Inside is just wonderful with the leather sports seats in Canberra beige. We've fully loaded the car with options (except for the sun-roof, but just about everything else). We had a drive back on the motorway and I got to use the adaptive cruise control - that is one very nifty option and was relaxing to use especially in an average speed 50 and then 40 restricted section of motorway. Looking forward to trying the LED adaptive headlights.

I've only had the one medium distance journey, but so far I'm happy :fest:

Note to me - rake up the leaves

Was just saying on another thread how nice the interior is in these. Speaking of the fwd, can you tell? How different is it from the 1 series?
I never wanted to believe that my Dad was stealing from his job as a road worker. But when I got home, all the signs were there.

Congratulations on taking delivery of your new car must admit I'm looking forward to hearing when our M Sport will be available early next month although we decided on the 218D however we did take the 218i on a test drive and did consider long and hard before making placing the order especially with going from the 118D Sport Plus Edition. As you mentioned the room inside the cabin is amazing by comparison between the two variants although ultimately the five doors also makes a huge difference.

Enjoy the car and I look forward to your comments regarding the headlights! 8)

Couldn't tell yet as the roads were too clogged and I was getting used to the auto. I doubt there'd be much to tell until pushing on.

I didn't get mine on finance. I'd give TRL a pm and see, but as a new model the discounts are not as large as for the likes of the m135i.

Congrats, speaking to the dealer I was told that the XDrive version would be announced this month.

Think it's just a matter of time for people to get used the way it looks as initial reactions at least from myself was that I wasn't sure, now I kind of get it and if works for you then fair enough.

My wife an X3, again as above I didn't like it, and I hated the X1 - now I love both and the X1 is fairly low on monthly PCP payments but for now i'll concentrate on paying for mine :)

The xdrives are on BMW.co.uk already.

We are going to have a look this weekend at the 2AT to replace her 118d, I saw one in the showroom and it looked great, and I really like that luxury spec car here, very nice.
