Front Bumper Adjustment E87
Hi all,
I bought an 118d M Sport E87 yesterday. There is a huge gap between the front bumper and the bonnet. It's big enough to, almost, put my finger in (that's what she said).
I read on a forum that there are bonnet adjusters or screws that can be undone, put the bonnet back on properly then tighten the screws and you're good to go. Obviously, there could also be an underlying issue there too...
I can't find the thread again but if possible, does anyone know how to do this and if which screws need to be loosened to adjust the front bumper!

Re: Front Bumper Adjustment E87
Yeah, your bumper cover does look a little low, especially on the passenger side. The whole thing looks s little too far over to the drivers' side too.

There should be 6 large Torx screws along the top, I'd start by releasing those & adjusting it's position backwards.
(1) on the top diagram:

If that fails, let me know, I've got more screws you can tinker with!

This is just what I was looking for! I'll give it a go tomorrow afternoon and let you know how it goes. Thanks again marco_polomarco_polo wrote:Yeah, your bumper cover does look a little low.

Couldn't wait until tomorrow so just gave it a go. Has made a little difference but not too much! Any other suggestions?marco_polo wrote:Yeah, your bumper cover does look a little low.

Re: Front Bumper Adjustment E87
When some douche-nozzle hit-n-ran my E87, I had to adjust the whole plastic slam-panel.

I'd be wondering why its so badly fitted. Has it been taken off for some reason or been in an accident ?

It's a cat C and been pretty poorly repaired. I'm wondering if it's been properly inspected and returned to the road. Do you know if there's a way to check this?stevesurrey wrote:I'd be wondering why its so badly fitted. Has it been taken off for some reason or been in an accident ?
I adjusted the further 4 torx screws and it's definitely helped a little bit more but still very noticeable. Looks like I might have to visit a body shop for this one

Re: Front Bumper Adjustment E87
I don't think any official inspection of repairs to a Cat C car are required before it can be put back on the road.
Did you buy it privately or from a dealer and what were you told about its accident damage?
Might be worth getting car checked over by a mechanic or perhaps getting it MOT'd to ensure its roadworthy if you have concerns about the repairs.

Re: Front Bumper Adjustment E87
Just did a bit of research and found out that the vic checks were abolished in 2015. Bought the car privately but was aware that it was a cat c, thought the gap could be rectified easily. It was MOT'd 2 days ago and had no advisories.stevesurrey wrote:I don't think any official inspection of repairs to a Cat C car are required before it can be put back on the road.

Re: Front Bumper Adjustment E87
Silly question, is the bumper low, or the bonnet high?
You can adjust the rubber bonnet stops (screw in), and the bonnet loop (remove screw, twist in, refit screw) to adjust it closed a little more.

Re: Front Bumper Adjustment E87
Bonnet looks ever so slightly low so lifting it to the correct position will increase the gap.
