118D Exhaust

Post by jonners » Wed Jan 10, 2018 9:57 pm

Hi

Last year I had the standard Back Box on the Exhaust system on my 118D replaced, for a replacement by Ulter (it is a straight through Back Box whatever that means). However recently it's been playing on my mind, should I have the middle silencer removed? Will this affect the Engine behaviour in any manner? How much louder will the Car be? Plus will I need my existing remap adjusting?

At no point do I plan on removing the CAT/DPF as it just appears too risky under all the legislations.

Thanks.

I've had the mid box removed for a straight pipe, along with my Ulter straight through back box, there is absolutely no change to the sound whatsoever. It sounds exactly the same as it did by having a Ulter back box and mid silencer in place.

Maybe I am trying to justify the £50 spent, but there feels to be a slight improvement in throttle response and pickup in acceleration...

Meh I just dunno....

Mid silencer + Ulter Back Box
Straight through (no mid silencer) + Ulter Back Box

Sounds exactly the same volume wise. Between these two configurations. As above.

This brand new aluminised mild-steel performance exhaust rear silencer has a pair of polished stainless-steel TWIN ROUND (70mm Diameter) tailpipes. The 'STRAIGHT THRO' silencer provides a modest power improvement, along with a deeper tone compared to the standard exhaust, however it's not too loud!
