M4 pads

Hi, I want to try and improve the braking on my car, just doesn't seem to have the bite like they should. Brake fluid was changed recently, still on original pads at 13000miles. Are M4 pads worth a try?

Are the M4 brake pads a direct replacement (as in they don't require any special fettling to fit)?

Does any one have the part number of these as well please?

Finally is it recommended to change the brake fluid as well? If so, what are people using?

Thanks :)

Straight fit, part numbers on Realoem. Or ask Stuart Murray at BMW fairbairn kirkcaldy for a price.

Stock fluid is really good stuff if it's fresh, are you doing anchor-heavy track days? For the track I like RBF600, but overkill for fast road use. Hassle and expense for no profit.

Thanks Marco, as always your response is hugely helpful and appreciated :)

Oem pads pecking order

-Standard pads

- MPerf BBK pads

- Std M4

- M4 sport pads

FWIW on my m135i with Mpbbk -I ran m4 sport pads F and MPerf BBK pads R. Good useable combo for DD, fast road and occasional TD's

As MP says fresh stock BF Is ok. If wanting more resilient BF then consider DOT5.1, ATE 200, Motul 600 (or 660) or - if price not an issue - Castrol React SRF.

Many thanks!

I find the stock pads don't offer the bite I'm used to, so I'd like to address that.

I assume by MPBBK that means M Performance Big Brake Kit? Is that an option or are these the brakes that come with the car?

Also the pads you noted above, I assume all of these for the standard M140i brake set up? If so, I like the sound of the M4 sport pads.

With regards to brake fluid, I've used Castrol React SRF before and really liked it, but I may just do the pads first and see how I get on.

Cheers :)

MPBBK - yes correct. Here's my post on my hybrid budget MPBBK

M4 sport pads - good choice - I have set to go onto to m2 once current pads need changing.

All pads will fit n140i oem calipers as pad thickness / shape are the same

I'm curious to know if a BMW main dealer would be willing to fit the M4 sport pads to my car?

The reason for asking is that Cotswolds BMW are fitting my diff soon and I was going to ask them to fit the pads whilst it was in...but wasn't sure if they'd do this or not. I guess I could ask but thought I'd ask here first :)

I'm not after pads at the moment, but when the time comes I'll consider M4 pads.

Does anyone know what brand the stock M4 pads are? If I go for M4 pads I'd probably look to source them away from the dealers to avoid their prices. Can't see any clues one RealOEM. (I'm aware it's advisable to purchase oem sensors from the dealer)

Cotswold confirmed they will supply and fit these for me which is good. I've asked if a full set (front and back) can be fitted when they do my diff.

I'll report back when these are done for anyone interested. My main aim is to improve the bite of the brakes as the stock pads don't fill me with confidence.

How effective are the sport pads on the first few stops in winter months ?

Some pads ive tried in the past (not on Mlites) have had close to zero stopping power on a winter's morning till they get some heat.
Not nice when almost the first manoeuvre needed where I live is a steep downwards ramp

No issues in my M135i 365d/pa hence why I will be running m4 sport pads on my m2.

In your case, I assume you'll be running winter or A/S tyres to navigate the ramp near yr home.

The ramp is covered so doesnt ice up
Its 1st floor to ground of our undercroft car park, but you have to come down it and then immediately turn left at the bottom or you'll hit a wall.
So pads with some cold bite are preferable

However yes my experiences with BMW's in winter means I will def be getting a 2nd set of wheels with winter tyres fitted.

I found oem Sport pads fine 1st thing on cold mornings - enough bite to keep you away from the ramp walls !!

Good shout re 2nd set of wheels for winter tyres 👍
