Hi there ...

Me and a pal are planning a trip for 5 days early May , Chunnel booked leaving Folkestone 5am Sat morning,

Basic Plan:
Get as far down as we can Sat towards the Alps , then try and do Fulka , St Bernadino , Stelvio and then hopefully drive up through Black Forest and arrive at ring Tue evening for an evening Blast round the track!

I'm not sure if all this is possible in 5 days as at the very early planning stage.

Any tips , dos and donts , routes and must haves for the journey ??

Thanks :)

I done this 2 years ago now in my old m135i 5 days is not a very long amount of time to do it in, so much to see. first stint was to stuttgart where we stayed 2 nights (the porsche museum is amazing, even the wife loved it) then we went down through stelvio and austria and stayed at lake Como for a few nights. I would highly recommend not taking a route through france as it is boring and very expensive on tolls circa 200 euros.

Nice idea, have done similar before.
What route are you planning to take down to the alps? via france or germany? The Black forest on your way through germany is very good.

Also checkout have done quite a few of these, have fun!
Hi , we're not really sure as to what route to take to the Alps, that's why i was hoping someone could maybe give us some suggestions?? We don't really mind having a long boring day of driving Saturday maybe a good 8 hours or so to get into the Alps and take it from there really.

I did a trip last year but came into the Alps from the south. The Gotthard, furka, Grimsel and susten loop is awesome and easily done with a couple of hours, probably less if you just drive but the views are so awesome you must stop. You'll be stoked afterwards. Just make sure in all cases you follow the local roads not the motorways. The Gotthard old paved road is epic, but I reckon the Susten is the best of them all. I also did the San bernadino into italy, alright but not as good as the others. I never did the stelvio. It was kind of out of the way from where we were, band in looking at the road, reviews, and reading about camper vans and bikers decided to flag it anyway. Part of me was gutted as its a box tick, but I must say those other passes provide a great experience and one I won't forget for a while. No matter how you do it it will be great. Just watch your speed elsewhere in switzerland as their penalties are very harsh. I left my hoonage for the good roads.

This is weird. Me and 5 others have a very similar sounding trip planned. We were planning on heading straight down through France to the Swiss Alps followed by Austria for 2 days then Germany. Also in early May so I'll be interested to read these tips too!

A few friends and I are doing a similar trip at the beginning of May also (6th-13th).

We REALLY wanted to do Grimsel Pass, as we're heading up through Switzerland from Lake Como, but looking at the official tourist website, it doesn't look to be opening until June... :?

I don't know if you could shed any more light on this?

Hi there ,,

Finally getting our arses in gear and sorting our trip out.

Basic plan:
Leaving 7th May 6am Chunnel , straight to Autoworld in Brussels couple of hours there ,then straight to the Ring for best part of the day and then on to Stuttgart stay over Sat night. Sunday drive down to Luzern Switzerland ,we think that's our base to start doing all the Passes , Grimsell , Fulka , St Bernadino , Susten maybe Stelvio (not sure if there in the right order !)
Hopefully spend a couple of days in the Alps then back up through zee Deutchland , no real plan on the way back , but were due back in Blighty Wed/Thurs .

Might see you over there ! :)
