They need to be exactly the same as they were before.
Thought so. It turned it wasn't quite seated correctly. It looked and felt fine but as I loosened the bolts a bit it seated properly and all is now well. Thanks for the help

Are you stressing it when you bolt it down? IE, physically warping it's shape with the wrong blower position, or incorrect bolts/torques?
Hmm. I have tightened them up fair bit. Do they not need to be too tight?

Re: Heater fan not working

Update...

I had the fan plugged in but not bolted in and it worked perfectly. Tried different fan speeds too and it worked fine. It's when I bolt it back in to place, it doesn't appear to function.

What am I doing wrong?

Heater fan not working

I took my heater fan out to investigate an issue where at higher speeds it makes the dash vibrate a fair amount. It's quite noisy. Turns it the likely culprit was a snail shell inside. I've replaced it all back but now the fan doesn't appear to turn on. I've tried unplugging it and plugging back in....

Cheers Garry,

Well BMW wanted £29 for just the sensor, or £35 for the entire flange, o-ring set, pipe and sensor.. So I got the lot. I'll inspect what needs replacement when I get it up on the lift.

Cheers guys
Did you get this re-fitted in the end?

Coolant level keeps dropping to a certain level

I keep topping my coolant up to max and within a week or so the level drops to around minimum, I think. At this point it does not drop any further. Which is rather odd and I'm trying to diagnose the issue. From what I can tell it doesn't leak from the bottom of the expansion bottle. A quick check ar...

Re: Fan blower unit replacement

Have you tried taking it out and putting some light oil on the bearings at both ends? Squeaky/rattly blowers are common on E series, not so sure about F’s, but a few drops of 3-in-1 seemed to do the trick with mine a few years ago. I havent looked on RealOEM for those parts, but if it says replacea...

Fan blower unit replacement

I need to replace my fan blower as on higher speeds it makes a rattling noise and vibrates the dash. I have looked on realOEM and it states a part number of 64119237559. However it looks like this was only up until 02/2014. Then I'm guessing replaced with an updated unit? My question is, would the r...

Re: Air con issues - F20

Mine also makes a "sea-shore" kinda noise, so I know what you mean. Does it change if you whack it on recirculation? Might be the system switching between recirc and fresh air intake, to try to increase efficiency of the cooling. Water trickling sound is also normal; the "gas" in the system is cond...

Re: Air con issues - F20

It's definitely not to do with the vents changing. The noise kind of sounds like waves washing up against the shore. Also pulsates at the same kind of tempo. Very peculiar. As soon as I turn offf the air con it disappears. Not so prevalent at higher speeds or with the music on. Also, when I turn the...

Engine rattle - F20 116i

Not sure if this is a common issue or not. I've noticed recently at certain rpms there's a slight rattling noise. Sounds almost like something touching the exhaust. It's nearer the front than the rear. For instance if I put the accelerator down when cruising along at 30 or 40 I can hear it. Not too ...

Re: Air con issues - F20

"Old fridge" is bacteria and sh!te in the evaporator; you can buy "air con deodoriser" treatments, but they dont work (after a couple of weeks, the bacteria will be back). Only way to deal with it properly is to physically clean the evaporator (but I REALLY wouldnt recommend it, unless you have a c...

Air con issues - F20

I've recently noticed some odd issues with the air con in my 2012 F20. For one, certainly when it start, it smells a tad funny, not an eggy smell just like an old fridge I guess. Secondly, when I turn it on and off there's a loud rush of air noise. It's not the blower fan as that's right down low. E...

Coolant level dropping - 116i

A few months after picking up my 12 plate 116i I noticed the coolant had dropped enough to not produce any hot air. It was around Christmas time. I took it to an independent BMW garage after I noticed coolabt leaking from a pipe near the turbo that entered the engine block. The garage also notices a...
