Re: ANOTHER attempted theft

I keep my car in a locked garage, so out of sight basically. But insurance renewal is coming up, and I’ve been quoted a lot less to keep it on the drive. So do I pick that and still keep it in a locked garage, or just place it on the drive as I expect my insurance is void if I keep the car in the g...

Re: Stationary revving issue

Oh good - I tend to go to 3k then drop to get the pops and bangs.

It's all about the pops n' bangs innit!?!

Re: Stationary revving issue

Most don’t know it, but revving without load is the worst stress placed on the rod bearings and caps. Easy to understand when you think about it, heavy piston and rod moving fast up the bore, with little pressure on top to counteract the rapid change of direction at top dead centre. That I did not ...

Re: Stationary revving issue

because some of us just haven't grown up yet. Nothing beats sitting at the lights and revving up so the whole car rocks left and right and imagining you're Dominic Toretto.

Re: Ride quality and general BMW vfm

And damping is crap why? Bounces around like a pogo stick on bumpy roads. And this is where the real issue comes in. On a track or perfect tarmac, an M1 / 2xx is great but on a potholed or uneven road like the majority of UK ones the rebound on the springs makes for a fidgety ride. I sometimes find...

Re: Ride quality and general BMW vfm

As for the value for money argument, yes if you take the performance aspect out of a performance car it'll be poor value, you're paying for the performance. What a bizarre thought [emoji23] That said I do think times have changed. Years ago BMW was seen as quite a premium brand and something to asp...

Re: Oil Consumption

I assume it's burning the oil rather than pissing it on the ground? I had an e46 330 that drank a litre every 4 - 600 miles. Changed a couple of items but still couldn't figure out why. No loss of power and no nasty clouds out the back so just kept it running.

Something ive been considering too with having a 2nd kid recently, but with the new g20 being released early next year i just couldn't fork out for a 3 series knowing it's gonna be the old model within a few months.
ditto - the new 3er looks pretty good so far and there is an m340 one too

Re: Ride quality and general BMW vfm

What kind of Astra? Unless it was a VXR it's not a great comparison. Sport suspension will always be harsh, that's the point of it, it's stiff. I bet your BMW feels miles better pushing on. As for the value for money argument, yes if you take the performance aspect out of a performance car it'll be...

Ride quality and general BMW vfm

Hi all, Long time BMW owner (for about 20 years now) but starting to get a bit sick of the m-sport suspension and it's comedy harsh or crashy ride quality. We're both on 18's and non RFT. This weekend I spent a couple of hours with my brother in his Astra. Similar age to mine (2016 to my 14) but I w...

Re: MPSS puncture protection

I had one of my rear MPSS repaired using 'hot vulcanised' method. As the screw was too close to the edge all the standard tyre repair places refused to repair it. However, if you can find a place that does offer the 'hot vulcanised method' then they'll fix it for you. Two years on my tyre is still ...

Re: WOW, I did not know that...

It appears I didn’t know there was a headlight switch... ...Thanks to the owner of the blue 140 who let me know my back lights weren’t working! So Just drove home with no lights on. Got out of the car and saw the headlight switch was in the 0 position. we're just starting to get to that time of yea...

Re: Order cancelled by factory - absolutely gutted!!!!

Oh, and lets not forget the M240 is about £3k more than the same M140 and both depreciate to the same point after 3 years. Not when I last looked, but perhaps things have moved on. But besides, worried about 3K (2.5 after discount) on a 30K plus car? Ok, the £3k was based on my last look around a y...

Re: Theft via break in reminder

Speaking as someone with a fair bit of experience, don’t waste your money on CCTV. It is good to see the hooded gentleman stealing your pride and joy, but it doesn’t deter them. These aren’t chancers, you are being targeted for your vehicle. Make it harder for them to get into your home. Anti snap/...
