Re: 120d Xdrive judder

Good news; the garage called to say my car is ready for collection. They fitted a new EGR valve and a new horn (the second new horn in less than six months), all taken care of under warranty. I won't know for certain until I collect the car on Saturday, but looks like the Crossclimate+ are fine (fi...

Re: Assistance required with start-up after low fuel break down.

Yeah i'd also like to know! I had many old VW's that would run for ~70-100 miles on 'Zero' with plenty still left in the tank. Then i bought a Z4 and tried going about 10 miles past 0 and ran out! I got caught short in my 120d once and went 15 miles past and was seriously worried! Would be good to k...

Re: 120d Xdrive judder

Thanks Ed, that's useful. I've been meticulous about tyre pressures and tried a variety of levels with no real difference. I'm running the same pressure all round, currently 2.3 bar. No other warning lights evident. But would an ABS sensor through up a drivetrain error? What would you recommend for...

Re: 120d Xdrive judder

Apologies for the thread resurrection, but looking for some advice. 120d xDrive - changed the original runflats a few thousand miles back for Michelin Crossclimate+ (not star rated but same size tyres all round) as I wanted something a little more capable than the original fit when winter comes aro...

Re: Whining noise when accelerating/revving up

It probably is the turbo or alternator or similar pulley such as the AC. Does the tone change? To test the turbo Vs pulley idea you need to rule out rpm being the direct correlation. Bad Turbos will whine with boost, so select a high gear and plant your foot. This will gather max boost for a low rpm...

Re: Brake Pad Warning - Keeps re-triggering 450miles after reset

Many thanks MP as ever in the techy threads! :) 2nd wear event you say..? That's a new one on me! Looking at the diagram i now understand - one of the sensors has probably tripped the 'nearly there' wire, and the car is now reading the 460 Ohm impedance. That is probably whats resetting my pa...

Brake Pad Warning - Keeps re-triggering 450miles after reset

Hi All, Some 20,000 miles ago i changed all the discs and pads on the car and reset the service interval. All as well until a few weeks ago where i got a big red warning that the fronts needed replacing. I checked the pads and there's loads of meat on them, so i just reset the interval using the 'ho...

Re: HELP F20 Battery Discharge

Silly question, but do you have any non-standard electronic peripherals in the car, such as aftermarket bluetooth kit, amplifier, dashcam etc? My friend recently had the same problem and it was a load of unconnected Parrot wiring behind the dash! The Switched and Permanent live were crossed. The bes...

Re: winter tyres fitted and on M140i SE

Good job that man! Bit early for me mind - i usually find the sweet spot is Dec 1st to around 1st March, depending on any cold snaps ofcousre. I have an X-Drive and am amazed how many people are baffled why i need winter tyres due to the 4wd . The Mrs calls the car a mountain goat - its unstopp...

I remember reading the coding list for our cars and you can disable it. You just need to get the cable/software or pay someone to do it.

Re: 120d Xdrive judder

I spoke to a lot of people about this and only one had a similar experience or was aware of star marked tyres on the x drives. My mechanic, who I really rate had no idea about the issue, neither did other fellas at the tyre centres. It was only here that there was some credible advise on possible s...

You don't have to tell your insurance company about tyres. Kinda wish you should however, as it should stop the Wanli ditch-finder brigade.

Re: 220d Diesel Particulate Filter Operation

So what's the main problem? The frequency of the regen, or the noise and effects of it? Or both? I've had a 120d (N47 engine, remapped to 230BHP) for 2 years and 25k now; i think i've noticed the DPF regen 3-4 times maybe in all that time. Mine is only noticeable by a gruff, meaty exhaust tone, a bi...

AC air is drier, so the car deploys it if the Windscreen Humidity Sensor flags a misty screen.

Safety system, perfectly normal and correct.
Thanks MP! I never realised there was such a sensor in our cars, that certainly explains it!

Re: AC Turning itself on/off (but not the dash light)

Glad to know its not just me! Although my AC comes on, the temperature doesn't change - mine always seems the same temp. I know about the AC seals - i don't think they're in danger of drying up when it comes on every journey however :) Ah well, ill put it do to that - the car is automatically lubric...
