Re: Matt’s Road & Track m140

I finally made a decision on the decat/cat situation and how I plan on replacing the JB4 that I removed and sold. In the interests of legality I’ve opted to swap the lovely free-flowing Evolution Racewerks catless downpipe for a BCS Powervalve 100 cell sports cat. Hopefully I won’t be adding too muc...

Re: Matt’s Road & Track m140

The coilovers went back to Meister R this week, they are respecifying the whole set. I haven’t insisted on specific rates, just provided a bunch of info and feedback, now it’s their turn to use their expertise to make them work as I hope. For the time being I’ve put the standard BMW rear shocks and ...

Re: Chris Harris drives the M2 Competition

When Harris goes on about the OG M2 wasn't up to the job, it is like he didn't make the video below of the OG M2 - no mention of 'not being up to the job'.. Really?? https://youtu.be/jH4hz9OB1L0 He does have a habit of getting carried away with whatever he’s driving at the time!!! Quite often...

Re: Which tool for rear shock top nut?

Did the rear shocks last evening and the 17mm socket wouldn’t fit in the recess, then tried a spark plug socket with 16mm opening and oddly it’s the right size... So at least on my car they’re 16mm nuts, didn’t look too badly rounded and the socket fitted well so I don’t think they’re 17mm that have...

Re: Track day tyres...

You can usually find tread width (not section width) info for tyres if you look hard enough, might be useful in helping decide. R888s at least (not sure about R888Rs) would tend to run wide, even compared to other semis. The point about added duress for the car going for a wider front is a fair one,...

Re: Nurburgring advice

Mr. Boring here being boring, decide if you you can afford to replace your car and potentially pay for other people’s repair costs before you go out there. I would dearly love to head over to the ring for a week, BUT, I just can’t expose myself to the relatively limitless possible financial exposure...

Re: M140 - Track Setup and Costs

Indeed, DS2500s are not superb pads, a little like something like an Nankang NS2R, if they’re your first step beyond a traditional road tyre, they’ll feel amazing... Then you try an R888... then a DZ03... then a full slick... That said, if they do what you need them to and make track time more cost ...

Re: Track day tyres...

IMO (and this is educated guessing because I haven’t tracked mine yet), you’re front end limited there and need bigger front wheels. The 7.5” front wheels are the limiting factor. Can you move the 8.5s to the front and buy some 9s for the rear for a 245/255 setup? Or even 255 front if you don’t mind...

Re: Anyone owned a VX220

Terrific cars IMO and great value for money. My brother had a couple of supercharged VX’s and I did a few trackdays in them. Handled very nicely, no mid-engined nastiness, and pucnched well above their power/weight ratio in terms of performance! :D I could see myself with a nasp one, with some ITBs ...

Re: Which tool for rear shock top nut?

I’ve found a spark plug socket that’s 17mm and a long 5mm Allen key, so that’s the current plan of attack.

Impact wrench is in reserve!

I’ll report back but might be the weekend before I get to it.

Re: Which tool for rear shock top nut?

Checked on Real OEM, M10x1 so you’re spot on, 17mm.
