Re: Oil Spec - am I paranoid?

But why bring in LL14+ for the N20 and Bx8 models if LL04 (or even LL01) is good enough for our babies? Only three reasons: It is better. It addresses a weakness in the older spec. It is cheaper - i.e. more economical to manufacture while delivering the same performance in a limited range of engines...

Re: Oil Spec - am I paranoid?

Probably posted before - but I found this interesting. Also didn't realise that the 04 bit in LL04 relates to the year of the specification - so LL04 spec is now 15 years old. Not necessarily a bad thing... As spec can stay constant because they 'got it right', but I wonder what the LL-14+ brings to...

Re: 2019 track days?

Good day day yesterday at Bedford. I didn't meet FRS3052... There were a few M2s and a bunch of M3s but no other 140s/135 Hatches (but there was a 135 coupe). Good to chat with a bunch of people with different toys. Breakfast with come Clio Owners, lunch with a couple of decent chaps in a Saxo, and ...

Re: Oil Spec - am I paranoid?

Agreed, many in here will be changing diff oil annually, or biannually, and gbox every three years or 40k, something like that. But the question really as about what viscosity is best. Read loads about BMW v8s running big ends in 30/40k which is blamed on lack of warm up and use of thick oil (as spe...

Is any one at Bedford on Saturday 20th April? If so, see you there.
I should be
Good man (or woman?). My first of the year, so looking forward to blowing away the cobwebs. Just checked in to the Holiday Inn and had a Free upgrade to a suite, which is nice. See you tomorrow.

Oil Spec - am I paranoid?

Hi all, Most of us old school mechanical sympathy sort of chaps think the long service life oils are more of a marketing exercise in offering a more convenient end product to the typical car buyer who can sleep easy in their beds at night thinking that the oil does not need changed for about two yea...

Re: Pilot Cup2' life span

90% yes, will be fine. Good as fresh newbies, no. Too good to throw away, hell yes. If they were resting upright on a flat surface, especially concrete, then they may not still be round, and will vibrate, but maybe, just maybe that will sort itself out, but be careful, they may be knackered.. Stored...

Re: Oil - 240i

Be an expert along in a minute I am sure; but my tuppence worth.... A wise man once said regular changes of a cheap oil is better than over extending an expensive oil. Point being that in principle, within reason, oil is oil. If the viscosity is right it will do the job. LL04 is long life, designed ...

£700 equals two track days with fuel and brake wear....? Way better than an noisey exhaust to annoy other people or some stick on bits of plastic to make it look like a Halfords special.

Re: AD08r fitment Advice

I am on 235 AD08R on ET 43 all round. No rubbing, but front is close to the strut. No issues, but wouldn't try a 245. With an ET 40 you might get away with it....? My AD08R 235s are wider than MPS4 245s.

Re: Please help me explain what this could be !

At a guess, would think some sort of sprayed on, rinse off cleaning product gone wrong...?

Lack of marking on the air intake....? Has that been replaced? Maybe running an aftermarket intake when the "incident" occured, and put back to standard before selling?

Just my guess.

Replacing wheel bolts

Is there any reason to change undamaged wheel bolts after a certain number of wheel changes? I reckon I've swapped the wheels around 20 times in the last 12 months (seperate set of track wheels). Appreciate the bolts don't go through the same heat cycles as engine bolts, but stressing to 140Nm, batt...

Re: Gear needed for changing wheels

You'll get a half decent low profile trolley jack for about £30 upwards. You do need a low profile one, unless you make some 3 inch ramps out of wood planks to get the car up high enough to fit a regular trolley jack in. Then you need a puck as mentioned above. Cost about a fiver if you want to look...
