Re: Gear needed for changing wheels

140Nm is not loose. Try undoing it with short ratchet handle of about 20cm and see how tough it is to do. When you put a long breaker bar on them you have enormous force (which is why higher rated torque wrenches are longer than lower ones) and 140Nm may 'feel' loose but it's far from it. This is wh...

Re: B58 Oil Change dilemma

I thought it was the paper element that collapsed. Not the housing I just had mine done last week and the filter broke up as they changed it. The guy explained that what happens is the filter element breaks as they try to remove it, there's nothing wrong with it up until this point so there's not a...

Re: M140i black sapphire with gloss black single slat or double slat grills ?

Prefer single myself, but then again I prefer to keep the car stock anyway, depends entirely on your own preference, it's like asking people what the best colour is (black of course) :)

Re: Video - MPE vs modified backbox

Good comparison, I modded my stock backbox on the 140 and really like the result. Even if the MPE is 'better' it's marginal and makes the cost difference very difficult to justify*

* not meant to trigger those with MPE's already, it's just a consideration for anyone wishing to choose

Re: Gear needed for changing wheels

You'll probably get away with it and back in the day I used to even used my foot on the end of those short wrenches they'd throw in with the scissor jack as you couldn't get the leverage needed by hand. Completely wrong but it worked fine and I do agree with you that over time you get a feel for it....

Re: Are all dealers this booked up?

Had mine serviced last week - called the week before and they had loads of slots available in under a week, so it probably just depends on location.

Re: Gear needed for changing wheels

The bolt in the picture don't happen unless you really really try to or use a way too powerful machine. You may not see it as extreme as that, but if someone is constantly torquing up waiting for the click when the threads have been greased, they can stretch the bolt past it's yield strength. It ma...

Bang on. I'm not putting me or mine in peril over a 1 series hatchback. If they want it they can have it. I'll say again, it isn't a 250GTO.
I understand the initial sentiment, but then you sound like you'd be willing to risk your family for a GTO?

Re: Most Stolen cars of 2018

But the link isn’t for the ‘Most stolen Cars of 2018’, it’s for the ‘Most Stolen Cars of 2018 Which Were Fitted With a Tracker and Recovered’. How many other cars would be on that list if it included vehicles not fitted with a tracker nor recovered? Agree, it seems a bit of a useless list. They sim...

Re: Scrapey noise from brakes?

It's quite common, especially at this time of year with all the salt on the roads. A layer of rust appears on the rotors pretty quickly and you get a scraping sound initially. After a few uses of the brakes the pads 'wipe' all the surface corrosion off and then the noise goes away. After being stood...

Re: Amazon Music

My Spotify never worked. I can stream as usual, but when I go into the spotify app on the iDrive it just shows a blank screen, apparently there's an issue with the phone app (at least on Android, not sure about iPhone). I just had my software updated at the service though and all my apps have disapp...

Not many people know that Toyota fitted hollow fibre carpets in a quest for weight reduction. Now that's attention to detail.
Sounds crazy but it all add's up.

A drop of laxative before a track day is a good method too

Re: The trouble with traction

Traction is all down to drivers skill it has nothing to do with temperature, tyres or road conditions whatsoever.. Ow wait, out on my MPSS today, didn't get the tyre temp over 12 degrees, couldn't use more than half throttle. Of course, temperature, tyres and road conditions all account for the tra...

Thats one job i really don't think I'd like to experience. You must see some gruesome sights? Yeah often when i drive past a scene that's being dealt with I often think what a grim job it must be at times. Not quite the same but I used to work with a guy that was in the Met during the 60's and he h...
