Re: Best brake pads for 130i?

For road use ive always found the standard pads with good fluid work well enough on my 130's, making sure the are pads free to move in hanger (not rusted to it)) and caliper sliding as it should is essential though. Uprating the pads is next step if needed and some find the EBC yellow work ok but im...

Re: My Suspension quest! 130i

Shoddy packing that! and no ive not had the same problem but packing is never great on them, i have had one with a spring platform slightly out of position but it easily taps back into place, not as bad as yours which looks like its come right off! but will go back on no problem.

Re: 130i Vanos Solenoid Install

I keep thinking I should either clean or replace those in my car as I have a strange issue where, when the car is fully up to temperature, revs are not stable when idle and can surge above 1k rpm when the clutch is depressed. This makes stop - start driving less easy! This does not appear to be the...

Re: 130i Vanos Solenoid Install

i read a couple of guides online first to make sure it was as easy as it looked and non of those mentioned how tight they are to slide back in! which is reason for this thread really. Bit of a thread resurrection this, but just wanted to say 'thanks' for the info; like you I found plenty of guides ...

Re: My Suspension quest! 130i

Re: New 130i Owner

Welcome to the 130i club :D awesome cars and despite me trying other things I keep ending up back in one, this is my 3rd! If you want one of the ultra rare BMWP rear silencers I might be removing mine in near future so keep an eye on for sale section ;) Why would you remove it Ian? :o I find the st...

Re: New 130i Owner

Retro fitting cruise is easy enough, you need the correct squib/stalk unit to match your car with wipers etc being main thing, as in rear wiper and auto button if your car has them but I presume it will, then a little coding once fitted to enable dash function and your away, I did it on my 135i coup...

Re: My Suspension quest! 130i

Few pictures of strup top locations with the Konis for reference, you can see adjuster tang in yellow once I removed the dust cover :) When reffiting dust cover dont force it down onto adjuster tang just press it on loosely to stop dirt getting into bearing but not interfering with rotation of strut...

Re: My Suspension quest! 130i

Front adjustment tang is on top of damper rod so access under bonnet, there is a plastic cover that usually sits over top of damper rod to keep dirt off top mount bearing but it's doesn't fit fully in place with konis due to adjuster tang sticking up, but does go on enough to keep dirt out. I will g...

Re: My Suspension quest! 130i

Lots of testing? I thought you just guessed it all :D Might try the 180 degrees setting. I asked garage for 90 degrees above full soft, but it feels more comfortable than I expected at full soft, so even wondered whether they forgot to adjust them at all... Not a bad thing, but if I can get a littl...

Re: My Suspension quest! 130i

Glad to hear its done the job for you :) it took a lot of testing to get this setup perfected but it transforms the car as you have found :D Damping wise you could try +180 up from soft will just firm it up nicely without being too harsh, ive ran all the way upto full stiff of fronts when testing an...

Re: Can anyone interpret this log and tell me what is wrong?

Yes over the past month I have been doing lots of reading and talking to people about timing corrections. -3deg on one cylinder is nothing to worry about from what I have read. Still doesn't explain why target boost is low. Indeed 1 event like that isnt an issue, Target boost is target boost set by...

Re: Can anyone interpret this log and tell me what is wrong?

Im no expert but do have a fair bit of experience in this area, looking at the above OP's log there is that small bit of timing correction (-3 on cyl6) and ecu is holding back a little boost to be safe, as that sorts itself out it lets boost build again, it shouldn't cause any other issue if that is...

Re: Can anyone interpret this log and tell me what is wrong?

Its engine protecting itself as its seeing timing correction on cyl6 from 2400 at start of run as it builds boost towards target, so ecu is reducing boost to help stop that, if you put on cyl timing corrections to your log (most important part when checking logs) you can see that 2 relate to each ot...
