X2 M35i thoughts?

Post by rjstua » Wed Dec 12, 2018 1:05 pm

I am only a few months in to my 3yr PCP on an M135i, after considering the X2 instead.

Looking a few years down the line, the X2 M35i should have arrived and been around for a bit, so should be available for another PCP go-around.

Coming from a 320bhp 1 Series, I'm worried that the 2ltr diesel is going to feel woefully slow. Is the 2ltr diesel unit plenty good enough? Or should I hold out for the 4cyl M35i engine(gutted it's not 6cyl)

Keep M135i.

Is the new small platform longitudinal mounted engine, or transverse?
If transverse then it won’t be anything like your long mounted setup.

If I'm remembering correctly, the M35i variant of the X2 has a turbochaged 2.0 litre petrol engine, producing 300bhp. Be interesting taking a test drive in the M35i variant to see where if differs from mine. The engine bay of the X2 is not big enough for the 6-pot engine.

BTW, the 2.0l diesel is surprisingly quick and responsive as BMW now fit a low rev. turbo unit. The auto box definitely helps with that too.
Now being enjoyed:

You're right, 0-60 is around 5sec so should be plenty quick enough. Obviously that performance comes at a premium, but reckon I'll test drive both when the time comes. Admittedly, that's about 2.5 years away lol!

I saw my first X2 on the road the other week, must say it looked very nice and quite different to anything else!

We have our demo arriving mid April. Feel free to pop by to try it out. I'm also interesting in trying out the new engine.

think this new engine in the xx35i range of BMW's is one of the most anticipated things that BMW has ever done!

It's roundly hated by traditionalists for whom the old ways are the best. But then they also said that about the ignition key :)

In all seriousness, I don't know if it's that anticipated. High-output four-pot petrols are rather like high-output four-pot diesels. They're all becoming the same. Even Alfa's 200-something bhp four-cylinder sounds no more than slightly fruity and doesn't sing like they used to.

Also what people won't like is why this engine has to exist in the first place, which is for use in a FWD-basis hot-hatch clone for that all-impotent launch-control thuggery.

I presume you're a lady?

Otherwise I'd get to the gym pronto. The X2 is a laydees car.

😂

4 cylinder! Oh dear.

The guys at Marshalls Bournemouth BMW seemed to be taking turns yesterday raging theirs around. Saw it twice.

Shame I didn't see them on the dual carriageway, would loved to have ruined their day in my diesel!

Well specced versions are not cheap, my Msport X book price was £43K , a year ago . Probably worth just over half now

Are you enjoying the car so far?

Cheaper cars can be very expensive to buy specced. On PCP the X3 is more expensive than the X3 once you have added a decent engine, reversing camera, professional media, front parking sensors and front parking sensors which are all standard on an M-Sport X3.

However the new X3 is more comfort orientated than the predecessor and thus the X2 with its lower centre of gravity is better if you prefer a highly engaging driving experience.
Cars:
-M140i SE, 5d, White, MP LSD, Adaptive Suspension, Heated Seats, Power Folding Mirrors, Front&Rear PDC, Reversing Camera

-X3 20i M-Sport, Adaptive Suspenion, Pro Nav, Icon Headlights, Parking Assist Plus, Power Folding Mirrors
